Job summary

The Department Of Justice seeks a Solicitor to provide legal advice across OPA, focusing on guardianship, medical decisions and human rights. You will support the Public Advocate and staff in sound legal decisions and manage varied files.

In this full-time, Melbourne-based role you will appear in routine VCAT and court matters, prepare submissions and reports, and contribute to an environment that protects rights, dignity and autonomy for Victorians with disability.

Qualifications

• Must be an Australian Legal Practitioner under the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014.
• Knowledge of guardianship, supported decision-making, disability law or related areas.
• Experience giving clear legal advice and training staff who are not lawyers.

Job description

• You will provide legal advice that helps protect the rights of Victorians with disability.


• You will work on guardianship, human rights and supported decision-making matters.


• You will appear in VCAT and court matters while building your legal career.


• You will do meaningful work that supports dignity, choice and autonomy.


• Ongoing, full-time role earning $100,894 - $114,476 per year, plus super.

As part of the interview process, shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a brief practical writing task. There is no need to prepare for this task; it is intended to help us understand your writing style and approach.

What you will do

As Solicitor, you will provide legal advice and support across OPA.

You will help the Public Advocate and staff make sound legal decisions.

About you

• knowledge of guardianship, supported decision-making, disability law or related areas
