Job summary

Harvey Norman is seeking a Solar Sales Engineer to design residential solar systems and support our sales and installation teams. The role focuses on creating complete design packages, sizing, ROI calculations, and grid documentation, working closely with customers and project stakeholders.

You will liaise between sales, installers, and operations, ensuring compliant, accurate designs and timely delivery. Prior experience in residential solar and SAA accreditation are essential.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience in a similar role within the Solar Industry (residential preferred)
  • SAA design accreditation for grid connected
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite/Office 365, AutoCAD (essential) and PVSyst
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and structural engineering principles as applied to solar energy systems
  • Familiarity with local permitting processes and building codes related to solar installations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to thrive in a diverse team environment
  • Dedication to achieving company and team objectives
  • Ability to function effectively in a multi-disciplined, multi-skilled work environment as a collaborative team player

Responsibilities

  • Produce complete solar design packages including panel layouts, SLDs, BOQs, and performance modeling
  • Generate comprehensive Work Orders for installers including BOM, design guidelines and compliance with AS/NZS 3000, 5033, and 4777 standards
  • Conduct system sizing, shading analysis, and ROI calculations based on customer consumption data
  • Prepare documentation for grid approvals (Ausgrid, Endeavour and Essential Energy)
  • Ensure accurate and complete supporting documentation for order processing
  • Thoroughly prepare project documentation in coordination with all stakeholders
  • Demonstrate independent problem-solving skills in client interactions
  • Deliver high-level customer service and promptly address queries
  • Provide technical advice to our representatives, coordinators, installers, and customer service team
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely and accurate sourcing of materials
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies to incorporate into system designs
  • Evaluate and optimise existing solar installations for improved performance and efficiency
  • Assist in the development of proposals and technical presentations for client meetings
  • Support the sales team by providing technical expertise during the sales process, including customer consultations, site assessments, and solution recommendations
  • Assist in converting leads to sales by addressing technical queries and providing tailored system solutions
  • Conduct customer needs analysis and recommend appropriate solar and battery systems based on energy consumption, site suitability, and budget requirements
  • Identify opportunities to upsell battery storage, EV charging, monitoring solutions, and other value-added products
  • Participate in customer meetings, webinars, trade events, and product training sessions as required
  • Support achievement of sales targets and revenue objectives while maintaining high technical and compliance standards
