Job summary

Grant Thornton Australia is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for bespoke internal applications, integrations and platforms. You’ll set the technical direction, oversee delivery, security, and reliability while mentoring engineers in a hands-on leadership role across development, DevOps and cloud practices.

Qualifications

• Experience leading software development teams with accountability for delivery.
• Strong production experience with Python and frameworks such as FastAPI or Django.
• Experience designing and operating APIs, event-driven integrations, relational databases and SQL.
• Strong DevOps experience across CI/CD, preferably Azure DevOps; infrastructure as code using Terraform or Bicep; containerisation; automated testing; and monitoring and observability.
• Practical Microsoft Azure experience across application hosting, integration, identity and networking services.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and set practical standards for applications, APIs, integrations and data access.
• Translate business needs into technical options that balance delivery, cost, risk and maintainability.
• Plan engineering delivery, allocate capacity, manage dependencies and provide clear visibility of progress and risks.
• Own the software development lifecycle, including code review, automated testing, quality assurance and releases.
• Oversee Azure application security, reliability, performance, cost, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and observability.
• Lead, coach and develop the engineering team while remaining involved in design reviews and complex problem-solving.
