Job summary

Flybuys is hiring a Software Engineer – Mobile Backend in Melbourne to design, build and maintain large-scale web and API applications on AWS. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure performance, security and reliability of critical systems.

The role requires Java, Spring Boot and AWS experience, plus familiarity with React/Node.js and SQL/NoSQL databases. Agile/Scrum environment and Atlassian toolset experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary IT qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Professional software development experience.
  • Backend programming experience with Java, Spring Boot and AWS.
  • Experience with Golang is highly desirable.
  • Experience with AWS technologies and at least two languages/tech such as React.js, Node.js and JavaScript.
  • Experience across full software development lifecycle.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Hands-on with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • Experience in complex, large-team environments.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL).
  • Software design patterns across frontend, backend and integration.
  • CI/CD and version control with Git.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Senior Engineers, Data Engineers and DevOps to align on requirements and estimates.
  • Develop, release and maintain web and API applications on AWS.
  • Design and maintain scalable, secure and reliable systems.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, guidelines and best practices.
  • Ensure code quality and security across data transfers between systems.
  • Participate in release planning, CI/CD and defect analysis.
  • Support production operations and incident resolutions.
  • Estimate timelines and contribute to release analyses.

Your Role

The Software Engineer – Mobile Backend is responsible for developing, releasing and maintaining software applications in line with business needs.

The role designs, develops and maintains large-scale web and API applications on AWS, with a focus on performance, scalability, stability, security and integrity.

Key Accountabilities
  • Working with Senior Software Engineers, Data Engineers and DevOps Engineers, the role contributes to technical requirements, engineering standards, delivery estimates, CI/CD activities and operational improvements.
  • Develop, release and maintain software applications according to business needs.
  • Design, develop and maintain large-scale web and API applications on AWS, focusing on performance, scalability and stability.
  • Contribute to engineering and design guidelines for highly scalable, available and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Ensure software development follows high standards and best practices across requirements, design, development, testing and deployment.
  • Apply an understanding of vulnerabilities related to data transfer between internal and external systems to maximise security and integrity.
  • Contribute to business and technical requirements analysis and review.
  • Work across IT and with vendors to identify, prioritise and resolve issues and provide subject matter expertise for enhancements, development and operational improvements.
  • Contribute to the operation of production and development servers to support agreed service levels.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, administer and execute routine and complex technical elements of technical operations under delegated authority.
  • Participate in team planning of timelines and contribute to engineering estimation activities.
  • Participate in the analysis of new releases and defect fixes through the CI/CD process.
Your Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or equivalent industry experience.
  • Professional software development experience.
  • Must have experience with backend programming - Java, Springboot, AWS
  • Experience with Golan, highly desirable
  • Experience with AWS technologies and at least two programming languages or technologies such as, React.js, Node.js and JavaScript.
  • Experience across the full application development lifecycle.
  • Experience working within Agile and Scrum frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Atlassian, Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience in complex, large-team technical environments.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • AWS technologies and large-scale web and API applications.
  • Software design patterns across front-end, back-end and integration.
  • Full application development lifecycle across analysis, design, implementation, testing and deployment.
  • Agile and Scrum delivery frameworks.
  • Version control using Git and Git-based workflows.
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.
  • SQL and NoSQL databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Data security and integrity for transfers between internal and external systems.
  • Develops and maintains scalable, stable and fault-tolerant software applications.
  • Contributes to business and technical requirements analysis.
  • Identifies, prioritises and resolves technical and operational issues.
  • Contributes to engineering estimates, delivery timelines and release analysis.
  • Collaborates with Software Engineers, Data Engineers, DevOps Engineers, cross-functional teams and vendors
  • Applies software engineering standards and development best practices.
