Arch Underwriting at Lloyd’s (Australia) Pty Ltd in Melbourne seeks a Senior Software Engineer III to design, build and maintain robust software that supports insurance operations across the business.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years software development experience within the Microsoft .NET stack.

  • API design/implementation experience (REST and WCF).
  • CI/CD expertise with GitHub Actions, Harness and JFrog.
  • Azure-focused development: AKS, Functions and Storage.
  • Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Agile delivery background with strong communication skills.
  • Desirable: Python experience and Generative AI familiarity.
  • Experience in regulated financial services (insurance) is advantageous.

Role Summary and Purpose

The Senior Software Engineer III develops, implements, and maintains application & software solutions that enable business operations to realize company goals and objectives. The Senior Software Engineer III performs complete end to end SDLC including design, coding, debugging, testing, and support of software applications. The Senior Software Engineer III is assigned to develop new software applications/systems, enhance/upgrade existing systems or provide production support. The Senior Software Engineer III works independently on projects of increased scope and complexity.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop andmaintainapplications using C#, .NETCoreand ASP.NET Core, build and support REST and WCF APIs.
  • Develop Azure-native solutions using AKS, Azure Functions and Azure Storage.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions,HarnessandJFrog.
  • Perform code reviews for peer Engineers.
  • Work in an Agile software development team to deliver application solutions, software and to maintain and support past and future solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with the Agile Program Manager (APM), Digital Product Manager (DPM), Business Systems Analyst (BSA), Quality Assurance Analyst (QA) and other Developers to clarify and refine requirements/user stories.
  • Translate user stories into engineering artefacts and complete software development work, which includes application design, coding, code review and testing.
  • Keep team and APM apprised of progress.
  • Support production systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work on performance tuning, code optimisation, refactoring and automation.
  • Manage engineering risks by proactively tracking and communicating issues, and devising methods to mitigating them.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of new technology and software engineering standards, practices and tools.

  • T- shaped skill set. In depth knowledge and experience in developing software applications on a specific software platform or technology and broad knowledge of related technologies.
  • Strong C#, .NET Core/.NET 6+ and ASP.NET Core experience.
  • Strong API experience including REST and WCF.
  • Demonstrable CI/CDexpertisewith GitHub Actions, Harness,JFrogand automation practices.
  • Strong Azure experience including AKS, AzureFunctionsand Azure Storage.
  • Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Strong Agile delivery background.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in Python- desired.
  • Understanding of source code change management primarily using GitHub.
  • Experience with Agile software development frameworks and processes.
  • Broad expertise in theoretical and practical application of software engineering best practices, methods and techniques.
  • Generative AI- desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to discuss, articulate and simplify technology to non-technical people.
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong decision making and customer service skills and ability to provide end user/business support when needed.
  • Knowledge of production support processes such as incident and problem management techniques.
  • Innovative mindset with adaptable attitude towards change.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary degree in computer science, engineering or knowledge gained through relevant work experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years software development experience within the Microsoft .NET stack.
  • Prior domain experience and expertise in a regulated financial services environment is desirable (specifically in insurance).
