Job summary

Mitti, part of SafetyCulture, is seeking a Software Engineer II in Sydney to design, build and maintain features across frontend and backend, with a focus on React and the potential to grow Go skills. You’ll join the Act group working on Assets and related products, collaborating with product, design and other engineers, including mobile teammates, to ship end‑to‑end improvements.

This is a hybrid role with time at the Surry Hills HQ; Mitti offers equity, flexible work, training, wellbeing

About the role

As a Software Engineer II, you'll be empowered to develop reliable, scalable solutions that solve real-world problems for customers, with the knowledge that your work has a direct positive impact. You'll face engaging technical challenges as we continue to scale, and be part of a team that owns its services end-to-end - collaborating closely with product, design, and other engineers as you build depth in your domain.

We’re looking for someone with solid frontend skills, and genuinely excited to build skills across the stack in order to own their work end-to-end.

About the team

You’ll join our Act group, where we build the products that help customers manage their assets and turn inspection findings into action. Our team primarily owns the Assets product, including the upcoming asset hierarchy and maintenance capabilities. We’re also exploring how we can improve Actions and Issues, which are tightly connected to inspections and used by a large share of our customers. Most of our features also have a native mobile experience, so you’ll work alongside our mobile engineers and learn how the disciplines fit together.

What you’ll be doing

• Design, build, test and maintain features across frontend and backend, with a focus on React, and the opportunity to grow your Go skills.

• Work closely with senior engineers on our main stream of work, while also addressing high-impact customer problems.

• Demonstrate your strong technical abilities to improve and extend existing products, and find sensible ways to make them better as you go.

• Help migrate frontend customer facing features to a new architecture as part of an Engineering wide initiative, taking ownership of our team’s areas and cleaning things up on the way.

• Use AI coding tools as a normal part of your workflow, with the judgement to know what to trust, what to review carefully and what to experiment with.

• Take part in code reviews, testing and the continuous improvement of how we work.

• Collaborate with product, design, quality engineers and mobile engineers to build experiences customers love.

• Work in a hybrid environment, including time at our HQ in Surry Hills, Sydney.

You may be a great fit for this role if you have some of the following

• Solid experience in React, with growing expertise in building scalable systems; prior experience with Golang is highly desirable.

• An openness to working across the stack. You might be stronger in frontend or backend, but you’re keen to learn the other side. Experience with Go is a bonus, and exposure to Swift or Kotlin is a nice extra.

• Experience working in an existing or legacy codebase, and a track record of understanding unfamiliar code and making effective changes.

• A high-agency mindset. You spot problems, pick them up without being asked and say "I don’t know yet, but I’ll figure it out".

• Practical experience delivering features end to end in a collaborative team.

• Experience using AI coding assistants, and good judgement about when to rely on them and when to apply your own.

• A user-centric approach and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.

• A curious, collaborative attitude and a desire to learn from and share with your teammates.
