Job summary

Mitti by SafetyCulture is hiring a Software Engineer II to join our Understand Group. You will design and build AI features end to end, spanning AI Assistant, agents and platform layers. You’ll prototype, test and ship in a greenfield space with strong R&D components.

You will work across backend and cloud services, using AWS, Golang, TypeScript and PostgreSQL, with a focus on scalable, user-centric systems in a hybrid work environment at our Sydney HQ.

Qualifications

• Strong backend development experience with scalable systems.
• Experience with Golang and modern frontend technologies is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud services.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL and data stores.

This role

This role is for a Software Engineer II to join our Understand Group. We build our AI and customer-facing analytics products. This includes the core AI Assistant, AI Agents and computer vision products. It’s an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of the company’s future product and engineering work. A lot of what we’re building is greenfield and involves a large R&D component.

In this role you can expect to:

• Design and build AI features end to end, from the problem through to production, including the evaluation work that proves they hold up in the real world.
• Work across the whole of an AI product, from the AI Assistant and agent experiences customers use to the platform underneath them.
• Take ideas from research to release. This is a new space, so you'll prototype, test and discard as often as you ship.
• Own problems rather than tickets. Framing the problem and working through the trade-offs matters as much as the implementation.
• Design, build, and maintain large-scale SaaS and cloud services, including distributed systems and data stores.
• Use a tech stack that includes AWS, Golang, Typescript, PostgreSQL, along with datastore designs, data warehousing, and distributed systems.
• Participate actively in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
• Bring a user-centric mindset, ensuring that engineering decisions support better user experiences, even in platform-facing work.
• Work in a hybrid environment, including time at our HQ based in Surry Hills, Sydney.

You may be a great fit for this role if you have some of the following:

• Comfortable with ambiguity and a fast-moving roadmap
• Ability to take ownership of more than just implementation - including solutioning and problem definition
• Solid experience in back-end programming languages and frameworks, with growing expertise in building scalable systems; prior experience with Golang is highly desirable and a willingness to get hands on with Typescript.
• Practical experience owning and delivering software features end-to-end in a collaborative environment.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and common data stores like PostgreSQL.
• An understanding of distributed systems concepts and datastore design principles.
• A user-centric approach and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.
• Experience working in fast-paced, SaaS-oriented teams and environments.
