Job summary

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is seeking a Software Engineer (Embedded Systems) to join the MQ-28 program in Brisbane. You will contribute to design, development, integration and test of software and firmware for mission systems.

Based in Brisbane, this permanent role reports to the MQ-28 Mission Systems Hardware and Firmware Manager. The position invites candidates with experience in FPGA, MBSE, MATLAB/Simulink and Defence software standards to deliver reliable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with Defence software applications and related design standards is highly desirable.
  • Experience in using MBSE tools and precise measurement instruments in a lab environment.
  • Familiarity with FPGA, VHDL and MATLAB/Simulink for modelling and design.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, development, test and maintenance of software throughout the lifecycle to industry and safety standards.
  • Translate customer requirements into initial software designs and architectures.
  • Use MBSE to support architectures, requirements and interfaces for software products.
  • Assist debugging and resolution of issues to ensure reliable software products.
  • Adapt to new technologies, tools and regulatory changes in software development.

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are looking for a Software Engineer (Embedded Systems) to join the MQ‑28 Program.

As a Software Engineer within the MQ‑28 program you will play an integral role in the day‑do‑day design, development, integration and test of software and firmware into MQ‑28 Mission Systems.

This role is based in Brisbane and reports into the MQ‑28 Mission Systems Hardware and Firmware Manager.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Support the design, development, test, and maintenance of software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle in accordance with industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards
  • Assist with review, analysis and translation of customer requirements into initial design of software products
  • Leveraging Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to support the development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, models, interfaces and designs for software products
  • Support debugging and resolution of identified issues, to ensure reliability and efficiency of software products
  • Support implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development
To be successful you will have expertise in some of the below:
  • Skills or domain knowledge in Mission systems, message protocols and data exchange
  • Strong communication skills and experience working in a collaborative, cross‑functional team
  • Past experience using precise measuring instruments (e.g. Oscilloscopes) in a lab environment
  • Past experience working with Field‑Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)
  • Past experience utilizing MATLAB Simulink for complex logic modelling
  • Past experience in Software development in Defence software applications, particularly conforming to Defence and Airworthiness Design Standards, is highly desirable
  • Past experience debugging Hardware Description Languages (e.g. VHDL) is highly desirable
  • Past experience utilizing Model‑Based Systems Engineering tools, such as MSOSA, is highly desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics and/or Electrical Engineering.
