Deputy is hiring a Software Engineer to join our Sydney-based team. You will work closely with product, design and leadership to build features for the Deputy platform, delivering services to millions of workers and workplaces worldwide.

You'll contribute across the stack, from front-end interfaces to robust back-end services, and apply modern practices to ensure scalable, fault-tolerant systems. This role supports ongoing modernization and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Customer-obsessed, focused on delivering great UX.
• Bias for action with a track record of shipping quality software.
• Strong CS fundamentals: algorithms and data structures.
• Proficient in front-end (JavaScript, React/Vue) and back-end (PHP, Golang).
• Expertise in API design (REST & RPC) and related tooling.

Responsibilities

• Work with peers, product, design and leadership to build features for the Deputy platform.
• Deliver services to millions of users and businesses from small to enterprise.
• Write clean, well-tested code and maintain high quality standards.
• Own testing, including automated tests, and ensure reliability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and scope.
• Engage in design reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• Coach junior team members across the SDLC.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and process improvements.
