Blue Zebra in Sydney is seeking an enthusiastic Software Engineer to join the team on a full-time basis. You will research requirements, design and implement software, test rigorously, and maintain systems to meet performance and security standards.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and apply best practices, with a hybrid working model and opportunities to grow your career in a dynamic underwriting tech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 1 year of professional software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Research, analyse and evaluate requirements and technical specs for software development.
• Design, develop and implement high-quality software applications and system integrations.
• Test, debug and refine software to meet functional, performance and security requirements.
• Maintain and enhance existing software systems, monitor performance and apply upgrades.
• Write and maintain technical documentation including specifications, tests and user guides.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time.
• Apply software engineering best practices such as version control, code reviews and design patterns.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to improve development processes and outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical advice and mentorship to colleagues.

About the Job

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Software Engineer to join the team on a full-time basis in our Sydney Office! In your day to day, you will:

• Research, analyse and evaluate business requirements and technical specifications for software development.
• Design, develop and implement high-quality software applications, modules, and system integrations.
• Test, debug, and refine software to ensure it meets functional, performance, and security requirements.
• Maintain and enhance existing software systems by monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and applying upgrades.
• Write and maintain technical documentation including specifications, test procedures, and user guides.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (project managers, business analysts, engineers, and stakeholders) to deliver projects on time.
• Apply software engineering best practices such as version control, code reviews, and design patterns.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to improve development processes and business outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, industry standards, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical advice, mentorship, and support to colleagues where required.

About you

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline (required).
• Experience: Minimum 1 years of professional experience in software engineering (preferred).

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C#.
• Familiarity with frameworks, APIs, and cloud technologies.
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
• Knowledge of agile development methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
