Job summary

Nine Mile is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Sydney-based team, focused on Exchange Connectivity and Market Data. You will build and maintain low-latency connections to global venues, manage FIX broker integrations, and drive exchange upgrades from inception to delivery.

You will work across real-time production issues and longer-term infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on performance tuning and robust data distribution in a fast-paced trading environment.

Qualifications

• Development experience in Java or C++ is expected.
• Experience in a High Frequency Trading or low-latency trading environment is preferred.
• Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments is required.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and market data distribution is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain low-latency connections to global trading venues including order gateways and market data feeds.
• Coordinate connectivity with FIX brokers from inception to delivery across multiple projects.
• Manage exchange upgrade and onboarding initiatives.
• Monitor and analyse exchange-facing and market data components; implement optimisations for performance.
• Contribute to real-time production issue resolution and longer-term infra work.
• Tune performance to maximise throughput and minimise latency across data and order routing systems.

The Role:

As a Nine Mile Software Engineer – Exchange Connectivity & Market Data, you will work at the core of our trading systems. Responsibilities include:

• Build and maintain low-latency connections to global trading venues covering both order gateways and market data feeds
• Manage and coordinate connectivity with a variety of FIX brokers, managing projects from inception to delivery
• Manage exchange upgrade and onboarding projects
• Monitor and analyse exchange-facing and market data components, suggesting and implementing optimisations for best trading outcomes
• Work flexibly across real-time production issues and longer-term infrastructure projects
• Performance tuning across both market data and order routing systems, maximising throughput and minimising latency

What you will bring:

• Development experience in either Java or C++
• A scripting language, preferably Python
• Experience working in a High Frequency Trading or low-latency trading environment
• Experience working across both Windows and Linux environments
• Strong understanding of network protocols and market data distribution
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Genuine interest in financial markets
• Strong academic background in Computer Science or related field
• Exposure to some or all of: ITCH, OUCH, FLEX, Arrowhead, JGATE, OMNET, FIX
