Job summary

Western Health is seeking a Grade 2 Social Worker to join the Specialised Rehabilitation Program (SRP) across Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals on a part-time basis (0.9FTE). The role offers involvement in a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality social work services in Melbourne's western suburbs.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor/Masters of Social Work with eligibility for AASW, at least 3 years’ experience, and strong communication skills to support patients and families

• Strong interpersonal, written and electronic communication skills.
• Experience across service navigation, advocacy, mental health, housing and carer needs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide social work services as part of the SRP multidisciplinary team across Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals.
• Lead staff development including supervision, training and coordinating student placements.
• Engage in quality improvement, clinical governance and research within the Social Work service.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic Social Worker to join our Specialised Rehabilitation Program (SRP) team in a part-time (68.4hrs/fortnight) fixed term capacity.

This Grade 2 Social Worker role will provide high-quality social work services within a community-focused, multidisciplinary team, supporting patients across the western suburbs of Melbourne.

It is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families through high quality hands‑on clinical practice.

Key responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for the provision of a Social Work service as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Specialised Rehabilitation Program across Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals. There may be a requirement to provide assistance across both sites depending on demand. They will have a leading role in ensuring best practice and excellence in SRP.

The Grade 2 Social Worker is responsible for developing staff and students, including supervision, training and supporting co-ordination of student placements and tutorials. They will also be involved with the wider Western Health Social Work service. The Grade 2 Social Worker will also undertake other tasks and responsibilities within the scope of practice as requested.

About you:

• Bachelor/Masters of Social Work degree and eligibility for AASW membership


• Minimum 3 years professional social work experience, preferably in a hospital/community health care setting


• Highly developed interpersonal, written and electronic communication skills


• Experience in a broad range of social work areas such as service navigation, advocacy, mental health, housing and homelessness, carer related needs, family violence/elder abuse or psychosocial issues


• Demonstrates a sound understanding of a broad range of theoretical frameworks, including trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practice, human rights, and social justice principles


• Understands the impact of physical and mental illness on families and carers, including those from diverse communities


• Knowledge of, and participation in, continuous quality improvement processes and commitment to clinical research
