Macquarie Technology Group is seeking a Security Engineer to join our Canberra-based cyber security team. You will onboard and normalise log sources in Splunk, develop detection logic, and investigate alerts across client environments.

This role suits someone with 18 months to 4 years in SOC or cyber security, who is proactive, customer-focused, and eager to grow in a high-performing team. On-site in Canberra with security clearance or eligibility; deepening your skills in threat monitoring,

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in cyber security, IT or CS required.
• 1.5–4 years hands-on SOC or cyber security experience.
• Experience onboarding and tuning log sources in Splunk.
• Understanding of MITRE ATT&CK framework and threat detection.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, triage, investigate, and respond to security alerts in SOC.
• Onboard and integrate log sources into Splunk and validate data quality.
• Develop, refine, and optimize Splunk searches and detections.
• Investigate events, determine severity, escalate per playbooks.
• Contribute to SOC process improvements and detection logic.
• Collaborate with cloud, network, endpoint, and engineering teams.
• Stay current with threat landscape and improve team capability.
