Job summary

Freedom Retractable Screens Victoria invites you to join its installation team as a Skilled Labourer and learn the retractable screen trade on the job. No formal qualification is needed; you will be trained from day one, installing screens in finished homes and new builds across Melbourne.

You will measure, fit, adjust, and ensure a clean finish, dealing directly with homeowners, builders and architects, with a company car provided for travel and site work.

Qualifications

• Physically able to perform the work including ladders, kneeling, and lifting.
• Full driver's licence and White Card (Construction Induction).
• Competent with hand and power tools and safe with homeowners on site.
• Reliable, presentable and comfortable communicating with homeowners and builders.

Responsibilities

• Install retractable screens on finished homes and new builds across Melbourne.
• Measure, fit, and adjust; rebating tracks into floors and sills where needed.
• Deal directly with homeowners, builders and architects.
• Assist and then lead larger multi-screen integrations with another installer.
• Inspect and repair damaged screens on service calls.
• Maintain car, tools and job records; you are the on-site business.

Skilled Labourer - Retractable Screen Installer

Good with your hands, and sick of labouring with no way up?

Freedom Retractable Screens makes and installs Australian-made retractable fly screens for homes across Melbourne - a lot of them high-end builds where the screen has to disappear into a bifold, stacker or cavity door and the finish has to be perfect. We manufacture in Carrum Downs and install everywhere.

We're hiring someone to join our installation team and learn the trade properly. You don't need a qualification and you don't need to have seen a retractable screen up close. You need to be handy, reliable, fit, and the kind of person who cares whether the job looks right. We'll teach you the rest - paid, on the job, from day one.

Freedom Retractable Screens Victoria & SA is a leader in retrofit retractable screens, with over 70 years' combined experience across the team, and our products are Australian-made. The factory is in Carrum Downs, with showrooms also in Richmond and Torquay. We've grown every year for ten years and have more work booked than ever.

What you'll do

Install retractable screens on finished homes and new builds - several jobs a day, planned and booked for you, mostly Melbourne metro.

You’ll pick up real skills: precise measuring, fitting and adjusting, the carpentry side of installs - rebating tracks into floors, sills and thresholds - and how to leave a finished home cleaner than you found it.

Deal directly with homeowners, builders and architects.

Assist on, then run, the larger multi-screen integrations, with a second installer working with you.

Assess and repair damaged screens on service calls.

Look after your car, tools and job records. On site, you're the business.

What you get

$30-35 per hour plus super, where you start in that range depending on what you bring - and it moves up as you tick off milestones, not just birthdays.

Overtime paid on top when you work it - this is not a salary that swallows your hours.

Take-home company car, fuel card and power tools supplied.

Regional Victoria and occasional interstate work is part of the job - planned in advance, with travel and accommodation covered.

Who we're after

Must have:

Good to have:

• Time as a carpenter's labourer, trades assistant or on residential sites.
• Blinds, awnings, security doors, or window installation.
• Shopfitting, cabinet-making assistance, fencing or decking work.
