Job description

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) protects Australia and Australians from threats to their security. ASIO's people are ordinary Australians but they do extraordinary things - they are our most important asset.

To be successful, we need talented people who are highly capable, dedicated, adaptable and resilient.

We seek to reflect the community we protect. ASIO is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, where all staff are valued and respected. We welcome applications from all eligible candidates, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious affiliation, age or disability. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply. We are secretive about what we do, not what we value.

At a time when Australia's security environment is dynamic, diverse and degrading, our work is more important than ever. Join the mission and make a difference every day.

The opportunity

ASIO is seeking proactive, motivated and passionate Business Analysts. You will contribute to ASIO’s mission through working with project managers, technical experts and business stakeholders at all levels to investigate, analyse, validate, and document business, functional and non-functional requirements. You will guide technology change through all stages of the project lifecycle and play a key role in transitioning ASIO staff to new ways of working.

You will have the ability to drive project requirements from inception to delivery. As a pivotal part of cross-functional multi-disciplinary teams, you will use a broad range of business analysis techniques to:

  • Define business problems
  • Understand business teams’ current state
  • Design and prototype user interfaces
  • Document business, functional and non-functional requirements
  • Lead user acceptance testing
  • Support technical and business teams through implementation and adoption.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

Responsibilities

As a Business Analyst, you will:

  • Investigate business needs, problems and opportunities to support and recommend effective business and ICT changes.
  • Develop artefacts to support the requirements definition such as requirement specifications, user stories, process models, operational concepts, prototypes and data driven insights.
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders by facilitating workshops, stakeholder interviews, presentations, product backlog management and user acceptance testing.
  • Contribute to and manage activities for planning, development, enhancement and implementation of projects and systems.
  • Identify issues, risks and benefits of current and proposed solutions and apply expertise to detail the resulting impacts.
  • Lead and support business transition to embed change.
  • Continually develop the business analysis competency within the Organisation.

ITE2 Business Analyst (APS6 equivalent): The ITE2 role will be capable of working under broad direction to perform and achieve a range of moderately complex ICT business analysis work in a variety of contexts.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to engage, influence and negotiate with others.
  • Experience in workshop facilitation, interviews and delivering engaging presentations.
