Job summary

BMD Group is seeking a Site Engineer to work on complex transport infrastructure, delivering Intelligent Transport Systems and associated civil/electrical works in Melbourne.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will participate in planning, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning across ITS and related infrastructure. The role demands collaboration, safety focus, and strong QA/documentation discipline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or related field.
• Experience on major infrastructure projects.
• Exposure to ITS, electrical infra, networks, traffic signals, CCTV, VMS, fibre optic or related tech.
• Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage construction delivery activities.
• Knowledge of QA processes, ITPs and engineering documentation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate ITS and civil construction activities, ensuring safe, efficient delivery per specs.
• Plan and sequence construction activities to hit milestones.
• Prepare and manage engineering documentation: methodologies, work packs, ITPs, permits.
• Manage subcontractors and suppliers to meet quality, contractual and performance requirements.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning and handover for ITS systems and infra.
• Monitor cost, productivity, quality and safety while addressing technical queries.

About the Project

The Tram to Springvale Alliance (TSA), made up of BMD Constructions, CPB Contractors and Arup, is delivering the Eastern Freeway Upgrades between Tram and Springvale roads. The works include new express lanes, upgraded noise walls, and revitalised areas of the Koonung Creek Linear Park.

The Role

As a Site Engineer, you’ll have a unique opportunity to work on complex and technically advanced transport infrastructure, delivering critical Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) that will improve safety and network performance.

Reporting to the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer, this position offers variety and exposure across ITS, civil and electrical infrastructure activities, from planning and procurement through to installation, testing and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise ITS and civil construction activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications.
• Plan and sequence construction activities to achieve project milestones and delivery objectives.
• Prepare and manage engineering documentation, including methodologies, work packs, ITPs, permits and technical submissions.
• Manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure quality, contractual and performance requirements are achieved.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning and handover activities for ITS systems and associated infrastructure.
• Monitor project cost, productivity, quality and safety performance while managing technical queries, design interfaces and stakeholder requirements.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Communications or related discipline).
• Previous experience on major infrastructure, transport or civil construction projects.
• Exposure to Intelligent Transport Systems, electrical infrastructure, communications networks, traffic signals, CCTV, VMS, fibre optic networks or related technology systems.
• Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage construction delivery activities.
• Understanding of quality assurance processes, ITPs and engineering documentation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to safety and project excellence.
