OSMAC Apprenticeships invites applicants for a first-year Signwriting Apprentice in Cairns. You will complete a Certificate III in Signs and Graphics while earning full-time wages, working with an award-winning signage business.

No prior industry experience required; a strong work ethic and teamwork are essential. We value practical, hands-on learners who can follow instructions, use tools safely, and contribute to projects across the Cairns region.

Qualifications

OSMAC Apprenticeships is seeking a motivated first-year Signwriting Apprentice to complete a Certificate III in Signs and Graphics with an award winning - well established signage business in Cairns.

This opportunity would particularly suit:

• Year 12 students graduating in 2026
• People who completed school during the past two years
• Creative people interested in graphics, printing, art or design
• Practical learners who enjoy and good with using computer program, operate machinery and tools
• Someone who wants to see their work displayed throughout the Cairns region

Previous industry experience is not required. We are looking for someone with strong interests in the trade, attention to detail, a strong work ethic and a good team player!

About the trade

Signwriting combines creativity, computer technology and practical trade skills.

Working alongside experienced signwriters, you will learn how to design, print, manufacture, install and maintain many different types of signage.

Your work may include:

• Learning to use graphic-design and specialised signage software
• Operating printers, cutting equipment and sign-manufacturing machinery
• Printing, cutting and applying vinyl graphics
• Preparing surfaces for signage and painting
• Measuring, assembling and manufacturing signs
• Installing signs safely at different locations
• Maintaining, repairing and replacing existing signage
• Producing vehicle graphics, shopfront signs and business signage
• Working on signs for councils, airport, hotels, hospitals and schools
• Assisting with small individual signs through to major commercial display projects
• Learning to use hand and power tools safely and accurately

About you

We would like to hear from you if you:

• Have Australian working rights
• Hold a current manual driver's licence or close to obtain one

• Have a genuine interest in signs, graphics, printing, painting or design
• Are creative and have good attention to detail
• Are willing to learn different computer programs
• Enjoy practical, hands-on work
• Are interested in learning to operate printers and manufacturing equipment
• Can follow measurements and produce work to a high standard
• Are reliable, punctual and ready to work
• Listen carefully and follow instructions
• Can work respectfully and effectively as part of a team
• Are comfortable working at heights when required
• Understand the importance of workplace safety

Experience with graphic-design software, art, painting, photography, printing, woodworking, metalwork or tools would be beneficial, but it is not essential.
