Job summary

Croydon Health Services seeks a Shift Electrical Engineer to maintain hospital infrastructure, including generators, emergency lighting, ventilation and medical gases, across wards, theatres and plant rooms. You’ll work four days on, four days off with rotating day and night shifts.

No NHS experience is required; you’ll need solid electrical skills, a safety‑first mindset and the ability to stay calm under pressure. The role offers training, overtime and opportunities for progression.

Qualifications

• A recognised electrical apprenticeship and relevant trade qualification.
• Strong fault-finding skills and knowledge of electrical distribution and installation systems.
• Experience in a service-led maintenance environment.
• Knowledge of building services and the ability to read engineering drawings.
• A sound understanding of health and safety.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Responding to breakdowns and carrying out electrical fault-finding.
• Maintaining lighting, power distribution and emergency lighting.
• Working on generators and battery backup systems.
• Completing planned maintenance, inspections and testing.
• Supporting wider building services, including ventilation, air conditioning and medical gases, within your training and competence.
• Carrying out minor installations and improvements and completing maintenance records.
