Job summary

AMSANT in Darwin seeks a SEWB Facilitator to deliver training and workforce support across the Northern Territory, focusing on SEWB, AOD and trauma-informed care for Aboriginal communities.

You will deliver CRTIP, ATSIMHFA and Narrative Practice packages, build partnerships with ACCHS, and contribute to resource development, evaluation, and practice improvement. This full‑time role is open to Aboriginal applicants and requires travel across remote NT locations.

Qualifications

• Work experience or qualifications in training and facilitating, SEWB, suicide prevention or mental health.
• Excellent cross-cultural communication with Aboriginal communities and health professionals.
• Ability to facilitate training and learning outcomes for diverse audiences and present AMSANT training.
• Project management and problem-solving skills for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, suicide, grief and loss for Aboriginal people.
• Ability to reflect on skills and evidence to improve program outcomes.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word/Outlook/Excel/PowerPoint/Teams/SharePoint).
• Willingness to travel to remote NT locations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with ACCHS and key organisations to improve SEWB training access.
• Work with the team to develop new or enhanced training resources and reports.
• Deepen content knowledge through learning, research and professional development.
• Facilitate SEWB training and change programs using trauma-informed approaches and mentor staff.
• Undertake projects to support SEWB and AOD programs as directed.
• Contribute to monitoring and evaluation through research and forums.
• Collaborate within the SEWB team on learning, admin duties and communications.
• Undertake other tasks as directed by management.

About the Role

Our Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team supports member services to support the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Northern Territory.

We work alongside our member services to build skills and confidence in SEWB, mental health, AOD and trauma-informed care.

The position delivers training, professional development, and workforce support activities across the Northern Territory. Facilitators deliver a range of training packages including, but not limited to, Culturally Responsive Trauma Informed Practice (CRTIP), Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid (ATSIMHFA) and Narrative Practice.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain collaborative, consultative relationships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) and key organisations to improve access to SEWB training programs delivered face-to-face and online.
• Work as a part of a team to contribute to the development of new or enhance existing high-quality training resources, tools, workshop plans and reports.
• Continuously develop and deepen content knowledge of SEWB training programs by undertaking self-initiated learning, evidence-based research and professional development initiatives.
• Along with other team members, facilitate SEWB training and organisational change programs that are underpinned by trauma informed approaches and provide workforce mentoring and support to ACCHS to apply in practice learning outcomes.
• Undertake projects, initiatives and activities that support best practice models of SEWB and AOD programs as directed by SEWB Manager and Workforce Development Coordinator.
• Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of processes and outcomes by taking part in research projects or sector forums.
• Work collaboratively within the SEWB team to contribute to professional learning and reflective practice, general administrative duties, and contribute to maintaining internal and external communication processes.
• Undertake other tasks as directed by the SEWB Manager and/or the SEWB Workforce Development Coordinator.

Selection Criteria (Qualifications & Attributes)

• Work experience and/or qualifications in one of the following disciplines: training and facilitating, social and emotional wellbeing, suicide prevention and mental health; community development; social work; alcohol and other drugs; or counselling.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) suitable to a cross-cultural environment and a cross-section of stakeholders including Aboriginal community members, health professionals and senior managers.
• Ability to facilitate training and learning outcomes to diverse audiences and the ability to present AMSANT training programs in public forums.
• Possess project management and problem‑solving skills that contribute to planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and initiatives.
• Understanding of or demonstrated knowledge of culturally safe and trauma-informed practice, issues surrounding suicide, grief and loss for Aboriginal people.
• Demonstrated ability to reflect on own skills and the available evidence‑base in relation to improving the quality of programs and program outcomes.
• Knowledge and proven ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
• Ability to travel to remote locations by plane or vehicle on a regular basis.
• Experience working in an Aboriginal‑controlled organisation.
• Qualifications in trauma‑informed care, narrative therapies or related disciplines.
