Lead people. Strengthen community. Make a difference that matters.

This is a 6-month fixed-term leadership opportunity for an experienced Aboriginal leader to take responsibility for AWAHS Social and Emotional Wellbeing portfolio, lead and support a diverse team, and make a meaningful contribution to services for Aboriginal people, families and community.

This position is for someone who understands community, knows how to bring out the best in people and wants to play an important role in the continued growth and development of Aboriginal community-controlled health and wellbeing services.

You will lead a broad portfolio of programs including Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Family Violence, NDIS, Aboriginal Health Promotion and Cultural Programs.

More than anything, we are looking for a strong people leader who can support teams, build relationships and ensure our programs remain culturally safe, responsive and connected to the needs of community.

About the role
As the SEWB Programs Senior Manager, you will:

  • Lead, support and mentor a diverse team delivering community-based programs and services
  • Provide leadership across Mental Health, AOD, Family Violence and NDIS client services
  • Oversee Aboriginal Health Promotion and Cultural Programs
  • Build a positive, culturally safe and supportive workplace where people can do their best work
  • Work with community, staff and stakeholders to identify needs and strengthen service delivery
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of programs that support the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal people
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and ongoing development of AWAHS
  • Manage program budgets, resources, reporting and service requirements
  • Ensure programs meet funding, quality, cultural safety and regulatory requirements

About you
You may already be working in Aboriginal health, social services, or another community focused organisation and be ready for a broader senior leadership opportunity.

We would particularly like to hear from someone who has:

  • Strong leadership and people management experience
  • A genuine understanding of the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing needs of Aboriginal people and communities
  • Experience leading community, health, wellbeing or social service programs
  • The ability to mentor, develop and support staff
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with community and stakeholders
  • Experience managing programs, budgets, funding requirements and service outcomes
  • Qualifications in social work, counselling, community services or a related area and/or substantial relevant management experience
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, with strong cultural knowledge and connection to community

What AWAHS Offers

  • Meaningful work: Make a genuine difference by leading programs that support the health, wellbeing and strength of Aboriginal people, families and community
  • Attractive benefits: Salary packaging of up to $15,900 tax-free, plus superannuation
  • Supportive team: Inclusive culture, professional development, supervision and EAP access
  • Career growth: A senior leadership opportunity where you can broaden your experience, develop your leadership capability and help shape the future direction of important community programs
  • Networking: Build strong relationships across community, government and the health and social services sector, with opportunities to attend conferences, forums and other professional events
  • Progressive organisation: Have genuine input at Executive level and contribute to the continued growth of AWAHS, including an exciting period of expansion and the development of a new health precinct in Wodonga

About the 6-month opportunity
This position is being offered as a 6-month fixed-term appointment to cover a period of extended leave. While the substantive employee may return to the position at the end of this period, there is also the potential for the role to continue beyond the initial six months, subject to organisational requirements and the circumstances at that time.

With AWAHS continuing to grow and expand its services, this is an opportunity to join the organisation, demonstrate your leadership and potentially build a longer-term career with AWAHS.
