Job description
SESLHD - VMO - Psychotherapy Supervision - Quinquennium position up to 30 June 2027

The Psychotherapy Supervisor will support the SESI Network Training Committee in maintaining and improving the quality of psychiatry training within SESLHD.

The Psychotherapy Supervisor will:

  • Keep themselves informed of relevant Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (RANZCP) policies
  • Respond accordingly to any changes in those policies that affect psychotherapy training
  • Assist the NDOT where possible in the formative and summative assessment of trainees according to RANZCP policies
  • Remain a key advocate for the education, training and skill development in psychotherapy for the psychiatry trainee
  • Advise and advocate for maintenance of clear lines of accountability for patient care and safety for the trainee by a supervision input in group/ individual work; case presentations and discussions.

The Psychotherapy Supervisor will foster relationships with psychiatry trainees in SESLHD providing support to encourage high quality provision of psychotherapy training.

Accountabilities and Key Performance Indicators

  • Enhancing and fostering the development of psychotherapeutic skills through regular contact with Psychiatry trainees.
  • Support and supervise trainees in preparation of case history reports.
  • Encourage linkages and or engagement with other psychotherapy providers to provide opportunities for trainees to access a broad variety of educational activities, and also with clinicians through their involvement with trainees as case supervisors.
  • Provide advice and support to the Site Co-ordinators of Training (SCoT) and other key supervisors.

Selection Criteria

  • Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Psychotherapy.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  • Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  • Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
