Job summary

Suncorp Group in Sydney is seeking a Cloud Service Specialist to contribute to delivery and continuous improvement of cloud platforms across AWS, Azure, and AVS. You’ll work within the Cloud & Core Data team to enhance performance, support critical services, and enable scalable, secure environments.

You will oversee MSP performance, ensure operational compliance within Suncorp's risk appetite, and move into a leadership role while still applying hands-on cloud expertise.

Qualifications

• Experience in at least one cloud platform (AWS or Azure).
• Strong incident and problem management experience in cloud environments.
• Knowledge of infrastructure services and cloud operations in medium to large organisations.
• Ability to apply governance, risk and vendor management practices.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex cloud issues by troubleshooting and restoring services across AWS, Azure and AVS.
• Take ownership of critical incidents and problems to restore stability.
• Promote operational practices for reliable, scalable cloud services.
• Provide governance and assurance to ensure security, cost management and performance.
• Manage service provider performance with SLAs, governance and outcomes.

Job Description

About The Role

As a Cloud Service Specialist, you will contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of cloud platforms across AWS, Azure and AVS. You’ll work within the Cloud & Core Data team to enhance operational performance, support critical services, and enable scalable, secure environments.

You will provide oversight and governance of the Managed Service Provider’s performance both operationally and strategically to support the platforms, ensuring the environments are operational and compliant and within Suncorp's risk appetite to deliver on customer needs and expectations.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to step up in leadership from a hands‑on tech role while still utilising your technical expertise in AWS/Azure/AVS and Cloud Services. You will be managing a team of technical people from our partner vendor (dotted line).

What You’ll Do

• Resolve complex cloud issues by actively troubleshooting and restoring services, ensuring minimal disruption across AWS, Azure and AVS environments.
• Take ownership of critical incidents and problems, applying technical expertise to restore stability and improve long‑term resilience.
• Promote strong operational practices across platform and project teams to support reliable, efficient and scalable cloud services.
• Provide governance and assurance oversight, ensuring compliance with security, cost management and performance standards.
• Manage service provider performance, ensuring service levels, governance and strategic outcomes are consistently achieved.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships, supporting vendor management, risk practices and continuous service improvement.

What You’ll Bring

• Demonstrated experience in at least one cloud platform;
  • AWS: Strong operational understanding of services such as S3, IAM policies and CloudWatch, ensuring secure and optimised workloads.
  • Azure: Experience managing environments using Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud and Azure Monitor to maintain governance and reliability.
• Strong experience supporting incidents and problem management in cloud environments, applying structured approaches to resolve complex issues.
• Knowledge of infrastructure services and cloud operations within medium to large organisations, contributing to availability, monitoring and optimisation.
• Ability to apply governance, risk and vendor management practices, supporting service performance and compliance outcomes.
