BMT Group is seeking a Senior Consultant Engineer in Australia to lead and deliver flood-related engineering and consulting projects with minimal supervision. The role supports mentoring and may evolve into people management, with opportunities to engage across public and private sectors.

You will apply engineering knowledge to plan and execute projects, coordinating tasks among engineers and scientists while maintaining scope, quality, and timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or other relevant area of study.
• Minimum 5-7 years' relevant experience post-graduation.
• Working toward relevant registration with recognised body.
• Strong organisation skills with attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Technical report writing and review skills.

The Senior Consultant Engineer is responsible for professionally and efficiently conduct engineering / scientific work without detailed supervision. Contributes to and/or manages small to medium projects for both public and private sector clients. Accountable for quality project outcomes under direction and support of more senior staff or Project Directors. This requires the application of engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects - having scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of tasks amongst less experienced engineers/scientists.

While this role is advertised at the Senior level, we welcome applications from professionals at any stage of their career who have relevant Australian flood modelling and consulting experience using TUFLOW.

For candidates interested in leadership, this role can offer opportunities to mentor, lead projects and, depending on experience and aspirations, take on people management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

About you

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or other relevant area of study

• Working toward relevant registration with recognised science / engineering/ environmental body.
• Strong organisation skills with strong attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Technical report writing (and review) skills.

• Experience in developing, calibrating and simulating flood models (TUFLOW software experience preferable)
• Desirable: Experience working within a multi-site organisation
• Desirable: Experience working within the engineering or resources sector in consulting capacity
