Job summary

WSP is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer (Senior/Associate) to shape sustainable water infrastructure across Australia. Lead water network planning and design, supervise multidisciplinary teams and mentor engineers on major projects for public and private clients.

You will apply advanced modelling, MSAs and cost-benefit analyses to inform decision-making, and contribute to proposals and BD efforts while ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and Chartered status (CPENG & RPEQ or pursuing RPEQ within 12 months).
• 6–10+ years in water engineering (planning/design) with consultancy exposure.
• Proven leadership in major water projects, including program/panel and project/design management.
• Advanced knowledge of water supply and sewerage network planning, hydraulics and asset renewal.
• Strong analytics and decision-support skills (MCA, NPV, risk assessments, cost-benefit).
• Experience with environmental and planning approvals, cost estimation, and constructability.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical assessments of water supply and sewerage networks, addressing asset condition, renewals, and population growth.
• Deliver feasibility studies, options assessments and functional designs for complex projects.
• Prepare business cases meeting regulator requirements for prudency and efficiency.
• Oversee risk management and apply Safety-in-Design principles on large projects.
• Coordinate inputs (environment, planning, cost estimation, constructability) and integrate into deliverables.
• Produce and review high-level technical reports and project documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building technical capability.
• Engage with clients to build trusted relationships and deliver client outcomes.
• Contribute to proposals and business development for medium to large projects.
