Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Urban Planner to join the Urbanism & Planning team in Sydney. You will work with urban planners, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality planning outcomes for NSW, Canberra, Newcastle and the Hunter region.

Role involves leading projects, partnering with directors and project managers, and ensuring timely, compliant outcomes. You'll contribute to assessments, masterplanning and approvals while mentoring junior staff and building strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning or a closely related discipline; ~6+ years of urban or environmental planning experience in a consultancy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and GIS/spatial tools is advantageous
• Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams with engineers, environmental scientists and designers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and stakeholder liaising
• Collaborative, flexible, solutions-focused approach across diverse teams

Responsibilities

• Review plans and technical reports for applications and proposals
• Mentor and support junior planners in their development
• Lead a range of planning projects, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality reports
• Undertake research, policy reviews and analysis to inform strategies and approvals
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver planning inputs for major approvals and masterplanning
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to fee proposals and bids
• Experience with data centres, rail projects, renewable energy and transit-oriented development is preferred
• Opportunity to work on projects across Australia, including Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games
