Job description
Overview

We’re seeking a motivated and technically strong Senior Underwriter to join our team in a permanent role. This position offers the opportunity to work across diverse commercial portfolios—including Dealer House Accounts, Motor Fleet, and specialised programs—where you'll apply your expertise to drive profitable growth and deliver tailored insurance solutions.

You’ll be part of a collaborative team, leveraging data insights and underwriting tools to assess risk, make informed decisions, and contribute to innovation. This role suits someone with solid general insurance experience who thrives in a fast-paced, stakeholder-focused environment.

A hybrid working model is available, and we welcome applicants who bring strong commercial acumen, relationship management skills, and a commitment to underwriting excellence.

What You'll Be Responsible For
  • Manage underwriting for commercial portfolios including Dealer House Accounts, Motor Fleet, and specialised programs to drive growth and profitability.
  • Utilise data insights, rating tools, and resources to inform risk assessments, coverage decisions, and pricing.
  • Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within delegated authority; prepare referrals for risks exceeding authority.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver tailored insurance solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and commercial partners.
  • Contribute to underwriting innovation by sharing insights, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting strategy implementation.
  • Deliver consistently professional, efficient, and helpful service to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting governance, including accurate documentation and adherence to administrative requirements.
What you\'ll bring
  • 3+ years’ underwriting experience, ideally across business packages, motor fleet, or other commercial lines.
  • Strong grasp of general insurance principles, including underwriting, compliance, product lifecycles, pricing, reinsurance, claims, and risk management.
  • Skilled in using policy platforms, rating tools, and data to deliver sound technical underwriting outcomes.
  • Proven relationship and negotiation skills, with success in broker or intermediated markets.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, with clear communication of recommendations in both written and verbal formats.
  • Capable of working independently within guidelines, using sound judgement to manage priorities, assess risks, and escalate when needed.
  • Highly Regarded: Experience underwriting ISR, Property, and Liability risks.
