Job summary

Queensland Government on the Sunshine Coast region seeks an experienced Town Planner to lead statutory land-use and transport planning tasks, provide strategic planning advice and review relevant planning instruments. The role supports interagency liaison and delivers high-level guidance to ensure transport network safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Town Planning eligible for full membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
  • Criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake statutory land-use and transport planning tasks for development assessment and compliance.
  • Provide high-level strategic and regional planning advice regarding transport network impacts.
  • Advise on Acts and statutory instruments relevant to land use and regional planning.
  • Review legislation, planning concepts, schemes and other plans and advise on implications for transport networks.
  • Maintain liaison with internal staff, government agencies, community and stakeholders.
  • Provide timely written and oral advice on land use and town planning matters for transport safety and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, technical support and mentoring to planners in the development assessment team.

Job description

Key responsibilitiesUndertake statutory land-use and transport planning tasks for development assessment and compliance.Provide high-level strategic and regional planning advice in relation to the assessment of development impacts on the transport network in accordance with the Development Assessment Rules and other statutory processes.Provide high-level advice on the Economic Development Act 2012, Planning Act 2016, the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 and other statutory instruments applicable to the department in respect to land use and regional planning matters.Review proposed legislation, planning concepts, planning schemes and other statutory and regional plans and documents and provide advice on the implications of such initiatives on existing and future transport networks.Develop and maintain appropriate and effective liaison and communication with internal staff, state and local government agencies, the community and other stakeholders.Provide timely, high-level written and oral advice on land use and town planning matters relating to the safety and efficiency of the transport network.Provide guidance, technical support and mentoring to planners within the development assessment team, including reviewing and signing off reports to ensure quality, consistency and appropriate technical judgement.Prepare ministerial correspondence, briefs and reports for District and Regional Directors and other department officers as required.Mandatory qualifications and conditionsDue to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.Possession of tertiary qualifications in Town Planning from a recognised tertiary institution which is acceptable for full membership with the Planning Institute of Australia.Requirements of the roleDemonstrates high level of knowledge and practice regarding development assessment and Planning Policy in accordance with Town Planning legislation, processes and policies.Communicates in a clear, succinct and deliberate manner, adjusting the message so that it resonates with different stakeholders.
