Job summary

Amey Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to lead a diverse portfolio of development and infrastructure projects across regional NSW. You will deliver statutory and strategic planning, provide expert advice, and mentor junior staff to grow the team.

You will manage client relationships, contribute to proposals and business development, and support renewable energy initiatives including solar and BESS, while ensuring high-quality planning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Environmental Planning, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years post-graduate town planning and project delivery experience, incl. 5+ years in NSW/QLD systems.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory and strategic planning legislation.
  • Experience managing projects within a professional services environment.
  • Excellent communication with clients and stakeholders; collaborative leadership and mentoring.
  • Experience in renewable energy projects and EISs; REAP accreditation readiness; membership eligibility.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to play a key role in delivering high-quality planning outcomes across a diverse portfolio of development and infrastructure projects.

In this position, you will lead the delivery of both statutory and strategic planning projects, providing expert planning advice, managing client relationships, and supporting the continued growth of our planning team.

About the Role:

You will work across a range of sectors, including urban development and renewable energy, while contributing to business development initiatives and mentoring emerging professionals. As a Senior Town Planner, you’ll play a pivotal part in delivering high-quality planning services while supporting team development and contributing to business growth.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and delivering statutory and strategic planning projects.
  • Preparing high-quality planning reports, studies, and advice.
  • Managing projects end‑to‑end, including budgets, timelines, client liaison, and resourcing.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to developing planners.
  • Reviewing work to ensure technical accuracy and professional standards.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Supporting business development, proposals, and fee estimates.
  • Contributing to renewable energy projects including solar and BESS.
What we are looking for
  • A tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years’ post‑graduate experience in town planning and project delivery including 5+ years within the NSW or QLD Planning system.
  • Strong working knowledge of statutory and strategic planning legislation.
  • Experience managing projects within a professional services environment.
  • Well‑developed communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and stakeholders.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with a passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Experience in renewable energy projects and EIS’s.
  • Willingness to work towards REAP accreditation (support provided).
  • Relevant professional memberships (or eligibility).
