Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer (ETCS L2) based in Brisbane, Australia. The role involves testing, commissioning and integration of signaling systems across on-board, trackside and control components.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, coordinating with engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable system performance. The ideal candidate brings 5–10 years in the rail sector, a degree in electrical engineering, and hands-on experience with test software

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field
• IRSE Electronic Systems Tester License or Electrical Trade qualification desirable

Responsibilities

• Participate in testing and commissioning of complex signalling systems per procedures
• Perform factory and site testing as required
• Identify faults during set to work and commissioning
• Produce test plans, procedures and project reports
• Improve project documentation
• Load and verify software configurations
• Support lab integration testing and field readiness
• Attend progress meetings
• Ensure test activities align with Health & Safety requirements
• Evaluate resource performance and identify training needs

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self‑motivated Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer (ETCS L2) who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Key responsibilities:

• Participating in the testing and commissioning and integration of complex signalling systems comprising of on-board, trackside, communications and control systems in accordance with the Commissioning procedures.
• Performing factory and site testing as required.
• Participating in fault identification during set to work activities and during commissioning.
• Supporting the Commissioning Manager or his delegate in ensuring the timely production of Test Plans, Procedures and Reports at the project level.
• Supporting the Commissioning Manager or his delegate in the continuous improvement of project documentation.
• Loading and verification of software configuration
• Supporting the engineering and validation teams where required including:
  • Executing test cases / procedures in a lab environment to support lab integration activities
  • Ensuring site test execution plans are executable in the field or target environment.
• Attending project progress meetings as and when required.
• Ensure that the test and commissioning activities are executed in alignment with the Work, Health and Safety requirements of the company and the project
• Supporting the Functional Manager in the evaluation of the performance of assigned resources, identifying the need for additional resource with project justification and identifying training needs

Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field
• IRSE Electronic Systems Tester License or Electrical Trade qualification is desirable
• 5-10 years' experience in the Rail or similar industry with demonstrated capability and skills in:
  • Safety systems equipment and environment
  • Use of Test equipment (e.g. Digital and Analog multimeters, insulation meters, etc.)
  • Use of Computer based Test software (e.g. Wireshark)
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Incident/accident investigation
  • Knowledge of ERP and Configuration Management tools
  • Knowledge of Database tools
  • Knowledge of tendering process
  • Knowledge of budgeting and cost estimation
