Hitachi Rail Limited in Brisbane, Australia, seeks a Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer (ETCS L2) to lead testing and commissioning across on-board, trackside, and control systems. You will support the production of Test Plans, procedures and reports, and coordinate with engineering and validation teams to ensure safe, compliant, and timely project delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, 5–10 years in rail, and experience with test software and lab

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field.
• IRSE Electronic Systems Tester License or Electrical Trade qualification is desirable.
• 5–10 years’ experience in Rail or similar industry with demonstrated capability in safety systems, test equipment, and related software.

Responsabilités

• Participating in testing, commissioning, and integration of complex signalling systems in accordance with commissioning procedures.
• Performing factory and site testing as required.
• Supporting the Commissioning Manager with Test Plans, Procedures and Reports at project level.
• Loading and verification of software configuration and supporting lab integration activities.
• Ensuring test activities align with Health and Safety requirements and project documentation.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self‑motivated Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer (ETCS L2) who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Key Responsibilities

• Participating in the testing and commissioning and integration of complex signalling systems comprising of on‑board, trackside, communications and control systems in accordance with the Commissioning procedures.
• Performing factory and site testing as required.
• Participating in fault identification during set to work activities and during commissioning.
• Supporting the Commissioning Manager or his delegate in ensuring the timely production of Test Plans, Procedures and Reports at the project level.
• Supporting the Commissioning Manager or his delegate in the continuous improvement of project documentation.
• Loading and verification of software configuration
• Supporting the engineering and validation teams where required including:
  • Executing test cases / procedures in a lab environment to support lab integration activities
  • Ensuring site test execution plans are executable in the field or target environment.
• Attending project progress meetings as and when required.
• Ensure that the test and commissioning activities are executed in alignment with the Work, Health and Safety requirements of the company and the project
• Supporting the Functional Manager in the evaluation of the performance of assigned resources, identifying the need for additional resource with project justification and identifying training needs

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field
• IRSE Electronic Systems Tester License or Electrical Trade qualification is desirable
• 5-10 years' experience in the Rail or similar industry with demonstrated capability and skills in:
  • Safety systems equipment and environment
  • Use of Test equipment (e.g. Digital and Analog multimeters, insulation meters, etc.)
  • Use of Computer based Test software (e.g. Wireshark)
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Incident/accident investigation
  • Knowledge of ERP and Configuration Management tools
  • Knowledge of Database tools
  • Knowledge of tendering process
  • Knowledge of budgeting and cost estimation
