Job summary

BHP is seeking a Principal Tailings Engineer based in Adelaide, South Australia, reporting to the Manager Engineering Copper SA. This pivotal leadership role focuses on tailings management, governance and dam safety across Copper SA, with site travel as needed.

You will influence long-term strategies, engage with Engineers of Record and RDEs, and drive engineering capability while championing safety and compliance in a complex operational environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience in tailings, geotechnical engineering or dam safety.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead long-term tailings strategies and investment roadmaps.
• Provide technical governance across audits, studies and modelling.
• Collaborate with Engineers of Record, RDEs and Centre of Excellence.
• Drive tailings risk management and continuous improvement.
• Oversee technical standards, design reviews and MOC processes.
• Ensure tailings dam integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Advise on risks, opportunities and investments.
• Mentor engineers and build technical capability.
