Job summary

Lockheed Martin Australia is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to help shape the AIR6500 program on complex System-of-Systems projects. You will own technical outcomes across requirements, architecture, interfaces and system design, partnering with customers, engineering teams and SMEs to mature solutions in an evolving Agile program.

You will lead engineering activities, contribute to design reviews, influence technical direction, support Agile delivery and build trusted stakeholder

Qualifications

• Extensive Systems Engineering experience in large, complex systems, preferably in Defence or regulated environments.
• Good MBSE/MBE understanding with tools like MagicDraw, Cameo, or Rhapsody.
• Experience in Agile delivery and ability to lead complex technical activities with limited direction.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills for technical reviews and customer discussions.
• Experience with C4ISREW, DOORS/DNG, DevSecOps or similar leadership responsibilities is highly regarded.
• NV1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information.

Join the AIR6500 program as a Senior Systems Engineer and take on a role that offers more than traditional systems engineering.

Working within a complex System-of-Systems environment, you will contribute to the design and development of the AIR6500 capability while taking ownership of key technical outcomes across requirements, architecture, interfaces and system design. You’ll work closely with customers, engineering teams and Subject Matter Experts to solve challenging problems and mature solutions within an evolving Agile program.

We’re looking for an experienced Systems Engineer who is technically strong but also ready to broaden their impact. Depending on your experience, you’ll have opportunities to lead engineering activities, contribute to design reviews, influence technical direction, support Agile delivery and build trusted relationships with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Systems Engineer’s primary responsibilities include:

Lead and contribute to system and subsystem requirements analysis, decomposition, design and interface definition within a Model-Based Engineering environment

Develop system architectures and key engineering artefacts including solution descriptions, requirements, trade studies and design documentation

Evaluate design options and technical trade-offs, considering impacts across component, subsystem and system levels

Take ownership of technical work packages and contribute to engineering reviews, customer discussions and the delivery of subsystem outcomes

Collaborate with SMEs, engineering disciplines, customers and industry partners to resolve technical challenges and mature system solutions

Provide broader engineering leadership where required, including supporting Agile delivery, technical planning, bids, estimates and continuous improvement activities

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role you will have:

Extensive Systems Engineering experience delivering large and complex systems, ideally within Defence or another highly regulated environment

Strong experience across requirements analysis, system design, architecture, interface definition and technical trade-off activities

Good understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE/MBE) principles, with experience using tools such as MagicDraw, Cameo, Rhapsody or similar

Experience working within Agile engineering environments and the ability to take ownership of complex technical activities with limited direction

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to contribute to technical reviews and customer discussions

Experience within C4ISREW, requirements management tools such as DOORS/DNG, DevSecOps, or previous technical leadership responsibilities will be highly regarded

NV1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information

Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
