CHAPtech Pty Ltd in Mackay is recruiting a Senior Systems Administrator to provide advanced technical support and act as a senior escalation point for complex Level 2 and 3 issues.

You will contribute to infrastructure projects, support cloud and on-premise environments, and mentor junior team members while maintaining strong client partnerships.

The role is office-based in Mackay, not remote, with ordinary business hours and on-site client attendance as required.

Qualifications

• Experience in systems administration and infrastructure support.

• Experience with DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and networking.
• Experience with Level 2/3 technical support and client-facing work.

Job description

CHAPtech is a growing Managed Services Provider delivering IT consulting, infrastructure solutions and technical support to small and medium-sized businesses across Queensland and Australia.

Established in 2007, we are experiencing continued demand for our specialist services and are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Systems Administrator to join our supportive and technically focused team.

About the Role

This is a full-time, office-based position located at our Mackay office.

As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will provide advanced technical support to CHAPtech and its clients. You will act as a senior escalation point for complex Level 2 and Level 3 technical issues, contribute to infrastructure projects and support the development of junior team members.

This role will suit an experienced Systems Administrator who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with clients and taking ownership of technical outcomes.

This is not a remote position. The successful applicant will be required to work from our Mackay office during ordinary business hours, with onsite client attendance as required. Remote-only applicants will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Resolve new and escalated helpdesk tickets involving hardware, software, servers, networks, endpoints, Microsoft 365 and cloud systems

Take ownership of complex, high-priority and recurring technical issues through to resolution.

Provide advanced onsite troubleshooting, equipment installation, maintenance and technical support.

Keep clients informed and maintain accurate ticket records and technical documentation.

Act as a senior technical escalation point and provide guidance to junior Systems Administrators and service desk staff.

Support and lead infrastructure, migration, cloud and technology projects.

Perform system updates, patching, backup checks, monitoring and security maintenance.

Identify technical, operational and cybersecurity risks and recommend improvements.

Maintain compliance with CHAPtech’s cybersecurity, privacy, information-handling and service-management requirements, including the secure handling of CHAPtech and client information.

Work collaboratively with the Delivery Service Lead, Directors, clients, vendors and project teams.

About You

You will be an experienced and customer-focused IT professional who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working directly with clients and taking ownership of technical outcomes.

Demonstrated experience in systems administration, infrastructure support or senior technical support.

Experience providing Level 2 and Level 3 technical support.

Strong experience with Windows, Linux, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, networking and cloud environments.

Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, LANs, VPNs, firewalls, switches, routers and wireless networks.

Experience with virtualisation, backups, patching, system monitoring, scripting or automation.

Experience contributing to or managing technical projects.

Knowledge of ITIL incident, change and service-management principles.

Strong problem-solving, communication and client-service skills.

The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and guide junior team members.

A current Queensland Open Driver Licence.

Full working rights in Australia.

A Diploma or higher qualification in Information Technology and relevant industry or vendor certifications.

The following will be highly regarded:

Microsoft 365 certifications or advanced Microsoft 365 experience.

Experience with Sophos, Kaseya, ConnectWise and AvePoint.

Understanding of the SMB1001 Small Business Cyber Security Standard.
