Job summary

Soto Consulting Engineers in Unanderra, NSW is seeking a Structural Design Engineer with 5+ years’ experience to join our office-based team. You will develop practical designs for steel and concrete structures across industrial and commercial projects in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll review designs for compliance with Australian Standards, interpret drawings, and collaborate across disciplines, using SpaceGass, IDEA StatiCa, and AutoCAD among others.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an Australian University.
• Professional membership of Engineers Australia (MIE Aust) preferred.
• Minimum 5+ years’ post-graduate experience in structural design, ideally within industrial, mining, or heavy-industry projects.
• Proficiency in structural design and analysis tools such as SpaceGass, Strand7, Inducta, IDEA StatiCa, or equivalent.
• Ability to interpret isometric drawings, detailed design documentation, and general arrangements.
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards and the National Construction Code.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience conducting site inspections or structural audits.

Responsibilities

• Develop practical, detailed designs for steel, reinforced concrete, and other structural systems across industrial and commercial projects.
• Review and verify designs to ensure compliance with Australian Standards and project requirements.
• Interpret drawings, scopes, and specifications to define key design inputs and deliverables.
• Collaborate with clients, engineers, designers, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality, timely outcomes.
• Use software such as SpaceGass, IDEA StatiCa, Tedds, RAM Connections, Inducta, AutoCAD, Advance Steel, and Inventor to produce accurate and professional documentation.
• Support projects through occasional site visits, inspections, and structural audits as required.
