Job summary

Melton City Council is seeking a Senior Strategic Planner in the City Strategy department to lead strategic land use planning, policy development and community engagement. You will report to the Coordinator of Strategic Planning and coordinate planning scheme amendments and major projects.

You will drive reviews of precinct structure plans, support growth area planning and provide high level advice on the Victoria Planning Provisions, while contributing to an inclusive, collaborative team

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or related discipline with relevant experience.
• Substantial experience in strategic planning projects and policy development for growth areas.
• Leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, project briefs and high-quality outputs.
• Experience in undertaking community consultation on strategic planning projects.

Responsibilities

• Project manage and coordinate review, monitoring and development of precinct structure plans and local policies.
• Coordinate and facilitate Planning Scheme amendments to the Melton Planning Scheme.
• Lead cross-departmental working groups and provide strategic planning input.
• Undertake community consultation to gather input on planning projects.
• Provide high-level advice on Victoria Planning Provisions and reform initiatives.

Band 7 - Salary Range $109,825 to $122,758 per annum + 12% Super + ADO

Salary offered will depend on level of skills and experience.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the City Strategy department for a Senior Strategic Planner. You will report to the Coordinator of Strategic Planning and play a pivotal role within the strategic planning team, offering expertise in strategic land use planning, planning scheme interpretation, policy formulation, project management, research, and community engagement and consultation.

Key Responsibilities

• Project manage and co-ordinate the review, monitoring and development of existing and new precinct structure plans, local policies and other strategic projects.


• Co-ordinate and facilitate the preparation of Planning Scheme amendments to the Melton Planning Scheme.


• Participate in and lead cross-departmental project working groups, as required, providing strategic planning input.


• Undertake community consultation activities to ensure the community have an awareness of and opportunities to input in the preparation of strategic planning projects.


• Provide high level and timely advice regarding the implementation of the Victoria Planning Provisions and other planning reform initiatives.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

• Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline with several years of subsequent relevant experience.


• Substantial and demonstrated experience in a broad range of strategic planning projects and policy development including a demonstrated knowledge of planning issues associated with growth areas.


• Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams, preparing project briefs and delivering high quality outputs.


• Demonstrated experience in undertake community consultation on a range of strategic planning projects.
