Job summary

Infineon in Australia is seeking a Digital Design Engineer within our Research & Development team to own physical design implementation for complex digital blocks, including floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing and physical optimization. You will drive timing closure and perform physical verification across the backend flow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• 7–10+ years of industry experience as Physical Design Engineer.
• Experience with blocks/top-level physical design.
• Knowledge of timing closure, IR/EM, LVS/DRC.
• Experience with TCL and Python scripting.
• Strong teamwork and multi-team collaboration.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive timing closure, congestion analysis, power optimization and area improvement across the backend flow.
• Perform physical verification (DRC, LVS, ERC) and reliability checks in collaboration with teams.
• Develop and refine physical design constraints, scripts and flow improvements; contribute to methodology improvements.
• Collaborate with RTL, design verification, DFT, STA, library and package teams to resolve design issues and participate in design reviews.
• Author and maintain design implementation documentation and signoff status; mentor junior engineers.
• Support tapeout planning and execution to meet project milestones.

Your role

Key responsibilities in your new role

• Own physical design implementation for complex digital blocks and subsystems, including floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and physical optimization; support block-level and top-level integration, including interface planning, timing constraint alignment, and implementation readiness.
• Drive timing closure, congestion analysis, power optimization, and area improvement; analyze and debug timing, signal integrity, power, and other physical implementation issues across the backend flow.
• Perform physical verification activities, including DRC, LVS, ERC, and reliability checks, in collaboration with relevant teams.
• Develop and refine physical design constraints, scripts, and flow improvements to enhance quality and execution efficiency; contribute to methodology improvements and establish best practices.
• Collaborate with RTL, design verification, DFT, STA, library, and package teams to resolve design and implementation issues; participate in design reviews and provide technical input on trade-offs, risks, and readiness.
• Author and maintain documentation for design implementation, constraints, flows, and signoff status; mentor junior engineers on physical design practices, tool usage, and debugging.
• Support tapeout planning and execution to ensure high-quality delivery against project milestones.

Your profile

Qualifications and skills to help you succeed

• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
• Min 7-10+ years of industry experience working as a Physical Design Engineer
• Have completed blocks or top level physical design
• Thorough knowledge of timing closure, IR/EM, and LVS/DRC closure
• Experience in TCL and Python (or other scripting languages)
• Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple functional teams across a variety of fields
• Ability to react to change and thrive in a fast-paced environment
