Job summary

Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) speech pathology team is seeking a motivated Speech Pathologist Level 3 for a permanent full-time role. You will provide leadership and deliver advanced assessment and intervention for adults with swallowing and communication disorders in acute wards.

Weekly VFSS involvement, multidisciplinary collaboration and supervision of students are key aspects. Immunisation and NSW Health requirements apply; applications close 10 November 2026.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Speech Pathology with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
• Extensive clinical experience including Level 2 or higher in acute settings.
• Expertise in adult dysphagia and communication management in the acute setting.
• Proficiency in instrumental swallowing assessment (VFSS +/- FEES).
• Strong written and verbal communication with health professionals and external providers.
• Ability to lead, supervise students and junior staff; contribute to service evaluation.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice and current speech pathology standards.
• Capacity to work autonomously with limited supervision and manage workloads.

An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated and dedicated speech pathologist to join the Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) speech pathology team in this brand new role.

What you'll be doing

• provide leadership and clinical expertise across the adult acute services at Northern Beaches Hospital
• provide accurate assessment and intervention for patients with swallowing and communication disorders within the acute wards
• Partake in weekly Video-Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS).
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Support the clinical development of students and less experienced clinicians.
• Support the Head of Department in refining and establishing services at NBH

Where you'll be working

Northern Beaches Hospital. Provide assistance, support and leadership to the Allied Health (AH) team in the delivery of an efficient and high quality Speech Pathology Service to consumers of NSLHD. The senior clinician acts as a clinical resource for other speech pathologists based at/in their service and is responsible for the assessment, intervention and management of swallowing, communication and voice disorders for patients.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria

• 2. A bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Evidence of extensive clinical experience, inclusive of experience as a Level 2 Speech Pathologist or equivalent.
• * 3. Demonstrated excellent clinical knowledge and extensive skills and experience in the management of adult dysphagia and communication across the acute setting.
• * 4. Demonstrated extensive skills and knowledge in instrumental assessment of swallowing, including VFSS +/- FEES.
• * 5. Evidence of proficient written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to liaise with novice and experienced health professionals and external service providers. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
• * 6. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement activities or service evaluation process. Experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students, level 1/2 Allied Health Professionals and/or Allied Health Assistants.
• * 7. Demonstrated proficient skills and knowledge in the provision of current speech pathology practice. A strong commitment to an evidence-based service to provide for consumers, carers and families requiring assessment, case management, intervention, appropriate referral and discharge planning
• * 8. Demonstrated proficiency in ability to work autonomously with limited supervision. Have the ability to prioritise work, manage a demanding workload, apply high level reasoning skills and have independent professional judgement.
