FinClear is seeking a hands-on Senior Solutions Architect to shape platforms behind equities trading, clearing and settlement across Australia. Based in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, you’ll own the design of our biggest solutions and act as technical lead for engineering teams while still writing code.

Qualificações

• 10+ years building enterprise backend systems in Java or equivalent.
• 2+ years as a technical lead or architect.
• Deep hands-on AWS experience (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, SQS, SNS, Route 53).
• Strong PostgreSQL/SQL/Redis data skills and distributed design.
• Proven ability to estimate complex work and manage dependencies.
• Confidently explain designs to engineers, execs and partners.
• Degree in CS/IT or equivalent experience.

Most senior architecture roles in Australian financial markets sit in a Sydney tower. This one doesn’t have to. We’re looking for a hands on Senior Solutions Architect to shape the platforms behind equities trading, clearing and settlement across Australia based in Perth, Sydney Melbourne or Brisbane.

You’ll own the design of our biggest solutions from start to finish, act as technical lead for one of our engineering teams, guide several more through delivery, and still write code. If you want national scale, regulated and genuinely complex work without relocating to get it, read on.

Our Solutions Architecture team turns Enterprise Architecture direction into designs that engineering teams can build. We run an AI first engineering model: architects use AI for design, documentation and code review, and nobody here has stopped coding.

What you'll do

• Design the solution. Take a problem set by Enterprise Architecture, work with product owners to draw out the functional and quality requirements, and design something secure, scalable and buildable.
• Lead a team technically. Act as technical lead for an engineering team. Set its technical direction, break work down and guide how it’s built, make the call on design decisions, unblock engineers and hold the bar on code quality.
• Estimate it. Give Enterprise Architecture and programme management estimates they can plan and prioritise against.
• Lead it through delivery. Work daily with the technical leads of the other teams involved, sequence delivery with programme management, and manage dependencies and interface risk between teams.
• Stay hands on. Review code, build prototypes where they help, and use AI tooling to move faster on design, documentation and review.
• Govern it. Lead and take part in Architecture Review Board sessions, and help build the reference patterns and standards other teams use.
• Keep it safe, fast and compliant. Make sure solutions meet FinClear’s security, performance and regulatory requirements, and take part in security reviews and performance testing.
• Work with partners. Collaborate with vendors and third-party teams to design and deliver integrated solutions.
• Grow people. Mentor engineers and testers across the teams you work with.

What you'll bring

• 10+ years building enterprise backend systems in Java or an equivalent language, with strong experience in microservices, REST and gRPC APIs, event-driven design, and messaging platforms such as RabbitMQ and SQS
• At least 2 years as a technical lead or architect, both leading a team day to day and accountable for large solutions delivered by several teams at once
• Deep hands-on AWS experience across EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, SQS, SNS, Route 53 and the services around them
• Solid data skills in PostgreSQL, SQL and Redis, and in designing data access patterns for distributed systems
• A track record of estimating complex work accurately and managing dependencies and trade-offs across technical leads
• Confidence explaining designs to engineers, executives and external partners alike
• A degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Nice to have

• Financial markets, trading, clearing or investment platform experience. If you’ve come from another regulated industry banking, payments, insurance, energy or resources we’d still like to hear from you.
• AWS Solutions Architect certification at Associate or Professional level
• Regular use of AI assisted development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot
• Experience working with technology vendors and third-party development teams

Senior financial markets architecture roles are rare outside the east coast, and many Perth architects end up in resources or government by default. This is a chance to do national financial markets work without moving. The two-to-three-hour time difference works in your favour, giving you quiet, focused afternoons once the east coast has logged off.
