Job summary

KBR, Inc. in Australia seeks a Senior Software Tester to lead testing across the SDLC from Canberra and Brisbane. This permanent role requires NV1 clearance or higher and compliance with ITAR.

You will develop testing methodologies, create test plans and cases, track defects, and ensure traceability to requirements while coordinating with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to deliver high‑quality software solutions for Defence contracts.

Qualifications

• Proven experience developing test strategies, plans, cases and reports across the SDLC.
• Hands-on testing across system integration, regression, verification and performance testing.
• Strong QA methodologies and test environment management.
• Experience preparing test data and using databases to support tests.
• Ability to identify and resolve defects with traceability to requirements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Desirable: Agile environments and automated testing tools, Defence ICT systems, ISTQB/DO-178C/MIL-STD-498.

Senior Software Tester – Expression of Interest (EOI)

This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in delivering high‑quality software solutions by leading and supporting testing activities throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). You will drive the development and continuous improvement of testing methodologies, processes, tools, and documentation while planning, designing, executing, and validating software and system tests. Working closely with stakeholders and project teams, you will monitor and communicate test progress, manage defects through resolution, and ensure strong traceability between requirements, testing activities, and delivered outcomes. You will also identify and elevate risks and issues as required.

Location: Canberra and Brisbane (permanent full‑time positions).

Security Clearance: Must hold an NV1 clearance or higher.

As a major service provider of the Australian Defence Force, an AGSVA security clearance will be required and compliance to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

• Experience preparing test data and working with databases to support testing activities.
• Ability to identify, analyse, and resolve defects while ensuring traceability to requirements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience collaborating across development, engineering, and testing teams.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Proactive, detail‑oriented mindset focused on quality, continuous improvement, and problem prevention.
• Desirable: experience in Agile environments, automated testing tools, Defence ICT systems, and industry standards such as ISTQB, DO‑178C, or MIL‑STD‑498.
