Job summary

Fitness Passport is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Sydney to own end-to-end feature delivery across our modern stack including TypeScript, React, NextJS, and Node, with AWS cloud expertise. You’ll collaborate with product and design to ship scalable solutions and contribute to architecture decisions in a fast-paced, AI-driven environment.

The role emphasizes ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on frontend excellence, API design, and DevOps practices

Qualifications

• 6+ years of engineering experience with TypeScript, NestJS, React, NextJS, Node and AWS.
• Strong full-stack development with emphasis on frontend design using modern techniques.
• Experience with GraphQL and database integration.

• Design and influence system architecture and technical strategy.
• Own features end-to-end from concept to deployment across frontend and backend.
• Ensure shipping quality, monitoring, and production stability without a separate QA team.

The Role:

We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team and drive end-to-end development across our modern technology stack. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in building scalable applications, integrating complex systems, and ensuring robust deployment practices.

Our team follows a "you build it, you run it" philosophy - quality, testing, and production stability are shared responsibilities. You won’t just be handed tickets - you’ll be expected to challenge ideas, propose better ones, and drive elegant solutions that improve both the product and the platform.

Our team is AI-first: we use Claude and other AI tools to plan and write much of our code, automate PR reviews, and streamline workflows - freeing engineers to focus on higher-value work like architecture, innovation, and improving developer experience.

Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers, you’ll help deliver impactful solutions that enhance our digital touchpoints and improve our member experience.

What You’ll Do:

• Design & Architecture: Influence technical strategy and architecture. Lead technical discussions, contribute to system design, and make decisions that shape our platform.
• Full Lifecycle Development: Own features from concept to deployment, ensuring seamless integration across frontend and backend.
• Ownership & Quality: Take accountability for shipping, testing, monitoring, and supporting your work in production - we don’t have a separate QA team.
• Collaborate Closely: Partner with product and design to deliver solutions that balance technical excellence with business impact.
• Clean code: Writing clean, efficient, modular, and scalable code using TypeScript, React & Node
• Frontend Excellence: Build responsive, high-performance user interfaces using React and React Native.
• API & Database Integration: Design and implement GraphQL APIs and integrate with relational and NoSQL databases.
• DevOps & Cloud: Implement CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and optimize cloud services on AWS for scalability and reliability.

About You:

You are an experienced engineer who is pragmatic, resourceful, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. With a strong technical foundation and a problem-solving mindset, you’re always looking for ways to improve digital experiences.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has 6+ years of engineering experience, working with TypeScript, NestJS, React, NextJS, Node and AWS
• Experienced full-stack developer with a strong emphasis on front end design using react and modern CSS/HTML techniques
• Experience with GraphQL and database design/integration.
• Solid understanding of AWS services and DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC)
• Embrace and apply an AI-led engineering approach, utilising AI tools and methodologies to drive innovation, efficiency, and product excellence
• Takes a pragmatic, results-oriented approach, balancing technical excellence with real-world application.
• Has a strong ownership mindset, taking initiative and accountability for delivering impactful solutions.
• Collaborates effectively across teams to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Thrives in a high-growth, fast-moving environment and adapts quickly to change.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture patterns (e.g. )vent sourcing, CQRS/read models and asynchronous messaging.
