Job summary

Horizon Digital in Perth, Western Australia, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer ready to grow into a Lead role. You will contribute production code, mentor juniors, and help set technical direction across AI-enabled projects for Tier One clients and smaller engagements.

The role is permanent and full-time, with a hybrid work model: three days onsite at George's Terrace and two days from home, plus flexible hours and strong support for leadership development.

Qualifications

• Some experience coaching or mentoring junior engineers.
• Solid hands-on experience with Python, TypeScript, React and AWS; Terraform a bonus.
• Interest in AI assisted development and integrating it into team workflows.
• Comfortable with CI/CD, automated testing and monitoring as normal practice.
• Strong client communication and ability to translate complex tech to non-technical terms.
• Ownership mindset and readiness for leadership responsibilities.
• Experience with agentic systems or LLM-powered products, even at PoC stage.
• Experience with React Native, Flutter or PHP.
• Exposure to large enterprise or Tier One client environments.
• Exposure to GCP or other cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Coach and support junior engineers through code review, pairing and day to day guidance
• Build toward owning estimates, technical direction and delivery quality on your projects
• Use AI assisted development day to day, and help bring that practice to the rest of your team, not just your own work
• Work directly with clients on requirements and delivery, building the credibility to become a senior technical voice they trust
• Take on more formal leadership responsibilities as you are ready, reviews, objectives and technical ownership

Senior Software Engineer - Pathway to Lead

Location: Perth, Western Australia (George's Terrace)

Workplace: Hybrid, 3 days onsite, 2 days from home, flexible on which two days

Engagement: Permanent, full time, flexible working hours

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is ready to grow into a Lead role at Horizon Digital. Whether you are already coaching and mentoring juniors as a Senior, or you have had a taste of leadership and want more of it, this role is built to take you there. You will work across AI and software delivery for clients from Tier One enterprise accounts through to smaller engagements, with real support to step into owning technical direction for a team.

The Team

You will work closely with our Technology Manager and current engineering leads, with a clear runway toward owning technical direction for a team of your own. We are genuinely invested in growing our next generation of leads, so you will get real mentoring and support as you step up, not just a title change.

What You Will Do

What We Are Looking For

• Some experience coaching or mentoring junior engineers already, with a genuine want to take that further into leadership
• Solid hands on experience across Python, TypeScript, React and AWS, Terraform a bonus
• Real interest in AI assisted development, ideally some experience embedding it into how you or your team works
• Comfortable with CI/CD, automated testing and monitoring as normal practice
• Confident communicating with clients and translating technical detail into plain terms
• Curious and keen to grow, someone who wants ownership, not just a bigger title
• Some exposure to agentic systems or LLM powered products, even at a proof of concept stage
• Experience with React Native, Flutter or PHP
• Exposure to large enterprise or Tier One client environments
• Exposure to GCP or other cloud platforms
