Job summary

Telstra in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement software across large Big Data platforms, with a focus on scalable, compliant solutions and robust test coverage.

You will lead design reviews, contribute to build and deployment automation, and mentor teams while coordinating with stakeholders to deliver feasible technical solutions. The role requires 10+ years of software development experience and strong Hadoop ecosystem knowledge.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software development.

Job Summary

As Senior Software Developer you will provide software design and implementation in the required Big Data platforms while participating in design review, code development, code review and maintenance. You will be analytic and evolve the most feasible solution based on the requirements of various projects and programs. You will assist with the development of software solution in order to provide legally compliant solution to meet Telstra’s legal and regulatory obligation, as well as building successful solution that provides business benefit. Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Designing and implementing software solutions across large diverse Big Data platforms
• Strong Big Data engineering skills to support feature discovery and trouble shooting
• Producing high-quality code with excellent test coverage
• Efficient code reviews and effective code maintenance
• Developing build, test and deployment automation
• Research and development of potential new technologies
• Defining processes and standards within the team and contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering development process
• Producing a high standard of technical documentation
• Ability to provide technical expertise for new and ongoing initiatives to work with project stakeholder to come up most feasible technical solution.
• Good time management and ability to successfully juggle multiple projects at the same time

About You

Enough about us, let's talk about you. To hit the ground running we are looking for individuals who can confidently demonstrate the following:

• Essential 10 + years of experience working in software development A senior developer excels in cross-functional team environments while possessing the depth of experience to independently drive and execute end-to-end initiatives. Demonstrated technology capability and in Hadoop echo systems including but not limited to HDFS, HIVE, HDFS, HBase and Kafka. Familiarity with technology hands on configuration, trouble shooting and system performance tuning and enhancement. Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders. Able to comprehend and deliver to a schedule with near-term deadlines. Ability to work in a matrix organisation, taking direction from both line and project management.
• Highly Desirable Previous experience working relational and non-relational database backends such as MySQL and Elasticsearch would be desirable. Previous experience working with NIFI and Apache Flink would be desirable. Good knowledge with Trino and Click house would be desirable. Good knowledge of working with DevOps tools such as – Bamboo, Jira, BitBucket/GitLab, etc.
