Job summary

AUSCERT at The University of Queensland is seeking a Senior Software Developer to provide high-level software development, leadership, and ongoing support for critical cybersecurity systems. You will work on design, deployment, and maintenance of systems that help organisations prevent and detect cyber threats.

Based at the Long Pocket location, you will collaborate with cybersecurity professionals, leverage cloud engineering practices, and mentor others while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Technology or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting complex software applications and systems.
  • Strong Python development skills with Django or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle/DynamoDB).
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React/Angular/Vue).
  • Hands-on AWS and/or Azure deployment experience.
  • Knowledge of Agile methods and Git version control.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, deploy, and maintain IT systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Lead design and development of significant software projects and provide technical expertise.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and drive continuous improvement.

AUSCERT Full-time, permanent position

Base salary will be in the range $106,709 - $116,198 + 17% super (HEW Level 7).

Based at our Long Pocket location.

About This Opportunity

Join AUSCERT and help create change together. We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to provide high-level software development, technical leadership, and ongoing support for critical cybersecurity systems and services. Working within a collaborative, inclusive, and purpose-driven team, you will contribute to the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of systems that support one of the world’s longest-running Computer Emergency Response Teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced cybersecurity and technology professionals, leveraging modern cloud and software engineering practices to deliver solutions that help organisations prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Designing, implementing, deploying, and maintaining information technology systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Leading the design and development of significant software projects and providing technical expertise across software architecture, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Investigating, evaluating, and recommending emerging technologies, systems, standards, and processes to support continuous improvement.
  • Building strong partnerships with clients and stakeholders while collaborating with software developers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

This is a continuing position that will play a critical role in supporting AUSCERT's cybersecurity services and technology platforms.

About You

You are a collaborative and solutions-focused software development professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment, building high-quality technology solutions, and mentoring others. You bring strong technical capability, a customer-focused mindset, and a genuine interest in continuous learning and innovation.

  • A degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting complex software applications and systems.
  • Strong Python development skills, including frameworks such as Django or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or DynamoDB.
  • Experience working with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, Agile delivery methods, and Git version control.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to collaborate, mentor others, and manage competing priorities.
