Senior SMP Checker: Structural & Piping Design Lead

Job summary

Sedgman is recruiting for an SMP Checker to join our team in Perth. You will lead the delivery of designs for Mineral Processing projects, performing independent checks on SMP drawings and 3D models to ensure accuracy and compliance with Sedgman workflows.

We expect a strong background in Structural and Mechanical checking, with a minimum of 10 years in design/consultancy and at least 4 years in shop detailing/management, plus mineral processing experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years experience in design/consultancy/operational environment.
• Minimum 4 years experience in shop detailing/management.
• Coal or Minerals industry experience – Mineral processing, materials handling and construction.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent checking of SMP paper-space drawings and 3D models for interface alignment, accuracy and compliance to Sedgman workflows and codes.
• Review interfaces between structural, mechanical, piping and vendor packages to identify inconsistencies and design risks.
• Assess constructability, fabrication, installation and maintenance considerations.
• Review workshop detailing completeness, tolerances, access, lifting, sequencing and buildability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design systems and governance and mentor designers.
