Job summary

Decipher Bureau is recruiting a senior security engineer for a major ASX-listed Australian fintech client in Sydney. The role is hands-on, reporting to the Head of Security as 2iC, mentoring two junior engineers, and driving cloud security decisions across AWS, Azure, and M365.

You will own cloud security posture, lead incident response for P1/P2 events, and oversee the consolidation of security tooling, including an XDR migration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in cloud/security engineering with hands-on AWS security.
• Experience configuring and implementing in production environments.
• Experience leading or coordinating cyber security incident response.
• Knowledge of security architecture across cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Own the cloud security posture across AWS (primary) and M365 - hands-on configuration, workload protection, and exposure management.
• Act as cyber incident response lead - coordinating and managing escalated P1/P2 cybersecurity incidents while junior engineers handle L1/L2 triage.
• Drive the consolidation of security tooling, including an XDR platform migration currently underway.
• Collaborate with architects and tech leads to embed security into solution design, secure coding standards, and new service rollouts.
• Support the shift to DevSecOps across engineering teams and review AI use cases against security and governance standards.
• Facilitate compliance by providing technical evidence and working alongside the external auditor.

We are partnering with an ASX-listed Australian fintech helping millions of customers. Two years into a major cyber and technology transformation, they’re investing heavily in modern cloud platforms, automation and AI, and security sits at the centre of that agenda.

This role

This is a senior, hands-on role within a growing, high-trust security team. As 2iC to the Head of Security, you’ll mentor two junior engineers and act as the technical anchor for cloud security decisions across the business.

Around half your time will be hands-on engineering. AWS is the primary environment, with Azure supporting one business unit and M365 across the organisation. You’ll own cloud security posture, lead incident response, and play a central role in consolidating the security tooling stack, including an XDR migration already underway.
