Job summary

Queensland Government seeks an experienced senior scientist in Anatomical Pathology to analyse patient specimens, supervise histology training, and provide expert scientific advice to clinicians. The role requires independent judgement and leadership to develop QC practices and participate in research collaborations within the service.

Rostered primarily on evening shifts with possible day work, the successful candidate contributes to equity, diversity and inclusion while supporting staff

Qualifications

• Proven high-level knowledge and ability to analyse patient specimens in Anatomical Pathology.
• Expertise in histology with capacity to supervise scientist training programs.
• Proven ability to provide independent scientific judgement to peers and clinicians.
• Demonstrated leadership to train and educate staff and participate in professional development.
• Ability to initiate quality and service improvements aligned with accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Lead evening roster as senior scientist with shift flexibility to day shifts as required.
• Provide expert histology guidance to peers, surgeons and clinicians.
• Develop and apply scientific practices and contribute to research with internal/external collaboration.
• Drive quality and service improvements in patient care and compliance with NATA/ISO.

Job description

The essential requirements for this role are;Proven high-level knowledge, skills and ability to analyse patient specimens by applying advanced independent scientific judgement in Anatomical Pathology.Demonstrated experience in, and high-level knowledge of Histology, with expertise to supervise scientist training programs.Demonstrated experience in, and high-level knowledge of histology processes.Proven ability to exercise independent scientific judgement in providing advice to peers, anatomical pathologists, surgeons, clinicians and other internal and external clients impacting patient care and service delivery.Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to train and educate staff while actively participating in and contributing to continuing education and other professional development activities.Proven ability to develop and apply scientific practices and actively contribute to research activities within the service and externally through collaboration with other disciplines, research groups and universities.Demonstrated ability to initiate and implement quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.Availability to participate in a roster system across the operating hours of the department. Routine hours of operation currently are Monday to Friday 05:30 - 23:00 and Saturdays 05:30 - 15:30.
