Job summary

AGL is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer based in Melbourne to lead and optimise SCADA/OT control systems across our Gas & Renewables portfolio. You will manage end-to-end SCADA operations for BESS and other assets, ensuring reliability and regulatory compliance.

You will guide remote operator teams, deliver large-scale projects, and embed Life Saving Rules and HSE practices in all activities. This role is on-site in Melbourne with flexible work arrangements possible.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Control Systems Engineering or related field.
• Experience in heavy industrial SCADA environments.
• Chartered Registration with Engineers Australia preferred.

Responsibilities

• Champion strategic operating, dispatch, and maintenance approaches.
• Deliver SCADA support services, ensuring system availability and Dispatch Centre integration.
• Conduct system health checks, daily monitoring, and change management.
• Provide subject matter expertise during major projects, from construction through commissioning.
• Configure and maintain SCADA systems, telemetry, HMI, control systems, and data networks.
• Embed AGL's Life Saving Rules and HSE practices into all activities.

About the role

AGL's Gas & Renewables Engineering team are seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer.

The SCADA team is responsible for managing all Operational Technology (OT) control systems across AGL's entire Gas & Renewables portfolio.

Based in Melbourne, you will be supporting a growing portfolio of assets, including end-to-end management of SCADA systems, from sensors and instrumentation to business application integration.

What you'll do:

You will provide technical leadership and optimisation of SCADA and control systems for AGL's Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and other gas & renewable assets, ensuring reliable operations through innovative solutions and industry-standard compliance.

• Deliver SCADA support services, ensuring system availability and seamless Dispatch Centre integration
• Conduct system health checks, daily monitoring, and change management
• Provide subject matter expertise during major projects, from construction through commissioning
• Configure and maintain SCADA systems, telemetry, HMI, control systems, and data networks
• Embed AGL's Life Saving Rules and HSE practices into all activities

What you'll bring:

• Tertiary degree in Electrical, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
• Proven experience as an Electrical/Control Systems Engineer in heavy industrial SCADA environments
• Expertise in managing distributed assets and implementing strategic operational initiatives
• Strong HSE regulatory knowledge
• Understanding of National Electricity Rules and regulatory frameworks
• Ability to support and guide diverse, remote operator teams
• Experience scoping and delivering large-scale projects
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Chartered Registration with Engineers Australia (current or obtainable)
• Functional Safety qualifications (desirable)
