Job summary

AGL is seeking a Senior SCADA & Controls Engineer to lead critical scopes for grid-scale energy projects and advance the company’s sustainable energy vision. The role emphasizes senior technical leadership in SCADA and control systems from design through commissioning across nationwide renewables initiatives.

The position requires a degree in Electrical Engineering, experience in SCADA/controls, and familiarity with Australian standards, with opportunities to influence multi-stakeholder projects

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Eligible for Engineers Australia membership; CPEng certification highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in SCADA and controls engineering.
• Strong knowledge of Australian and International standards, process safety, and project lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Lead SCADA and control engineering activities across grid-scale projects.
• Develop technical specifications and design criteria for major equipment and systems.
• Review and govern engineering deliverables from contractors, OEMs, and consultants to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements.
• Coordinate and manage technical workstreams, ensuring adherence to HSE legislation and AGL’s safety standards.
• Perform risk assessments and implement effective controls for engineering activities.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and provide recommendations for future projects.
• Mentor and share technical knowledge within the team to support collective growth.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers to deliver successful project outcomes.

About The Role

AGL’s Construction team is looking for a Senior SCADA & Controls Engineer to lead critical engineering scopes for new greenfield grid-scale energy projects and help deliver our vision for a sustainable future.

This is a senior technical role with leadership responsibilities, driving excellence in SCADA and control systems design, commissioning, and integration across renewable energy projects.

The role has the flexibility to be based in any of our national offices with a preference for Sydney, Newcastle or Melbourne.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead SCADA and control engineering activities across all phases of grid-scale energy projects (Assess to Execute)
• Develop technical specifications and design criteria for major equipment and systems
• Review and govern engineering deliverables from contractors, OEMs, and consultants to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements
• Coordinate and manage technical workstreams, ensuring adherence to HSE legislation and AGL’s safety standards
• Perform risk assessments and implement effective controls for engineering activities
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and provide recommendations for future projects
• Mentor and share technical knowledge within the team to support collective growth
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers to deliver successful project outcomes

What You Will Bring

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Eligible for Engineers Australia membership; CPEng certification highly preferred
• Demonstrated experience in SCADA and controls engineering

• Proven ability to manage complex technical deliverables and multiple stakeholders
