Job summary

Softtest Pays Pty is seeking an EL1 Senior Satellite Communications Engineer in Canberra, ACT, AU. The role focuses on GEO and NGSO satellite systems, RF/microwave design, high-availability WAN solutions, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will produce high-quality design documentation, maintenance plans, and guidance for junior engineers, with regular travel to DFAT posts and remote sites for deployment and support.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in satellite communications engineering, including GEO and NGSO systems.
• Strong understanding of RF and microwave communication systems, including design, testing, and optimisation.
• Experience in planning and implementing high-availability WAN services, including satellite-based connectivity across locations.
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation, including high-level designs and maintenance plans.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to travel regularly to DFAT Posts and remote locations for deployment, maintenance and support.

Responsibilities

• Experience supporting government or defence satellite communications projects.
• Ability to mentor or provide technical guidance to junior engineers or field technicians.
• Travel to geographically dispersed DFAT Posts for system deployment and maintenance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable satellite connectivity across sites.
• Produce high-quality technical designs and maintenance documentation.
• Lead or participate in field deployments and commissioning activities.
