Job summary

ARTC in Australia is seeking a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with six years’ rail experience to support rolling stock assessment, interoperability, and national standards initiatives. You will work within Engineering Services to ensure safe and efficient operation across ARTC’s network.

The role requires strong technical judgment, stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence engineering outcomes across multiple rail operators and infrastructure managers.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer.
• Registered Engineer or working towards registration.
• Minimum six years’ experience in rail rolling stock, infrastructure or operational interfaces.
• Experience in development and management of standards, technical documentation, engineering processes and procedures.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Proven analytical, problem-solving and continuous improvement capability.
• Ability to influence change and deliver practical engineering outcomes.
• Experience with multiple Rail Infrastructure Managers and Rolling Stock Operators is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support assessment, approval and introduction of new and modified rolling stock and track maintenance vehicles onto the ARTC network.
• Contribute to development and maintenance of rolling stock interface standards, procedures and technical documentation.
• Provide technical advice to customers, stakeholders and internal teams on rolling stock interface and operational requirements.
• Support industry collaboration and national standardisation initiatives through engagement with rail bodies and standards development.
• Assist with engineering assessments, approvals and interoperability initiatives for safe rail operations.
• Evaluate and approve ICPs for Rail Maintenance Vehicles operating on the ARTC network.

About The Opportunity

Join ARTC and play a key role in shaping the future of rail interoperability across Australia's national network.

Working within our Engineering Services team, you will support the safe, efficient and sustainable operation of rolling stock across the ARTC network. This role contributes to the assessment and approval of new and modified rolling stock, development of engineering standards, and delivery of national harmonisation initiatives that improve interoperability across the Australian rail industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the assessment, approval and introduction of new and modified rolling stock and track maintenance vehicles onto the ARTC network.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of rolling stock interface standards, procedures and technical documentation.
• Provide technical advice and subject matter expertise to customers, stakeholders and internal teams on rolling stock interface and operational requirements.
• Support industry collaboration and national standardisation initiatives through engagement with rail industry bodies and standards development activities.
• Assist with engineering assessments, approvals and interoperability initiatives that support safe and efficient rail operations.
• Evaluate and approve Independent Competent Persons (ICPs) for Rail Maintenance Vehicles operating on the ARTC network.

What do we want from you?

• Degree qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer.

• Practical experience in the development and management of standards, technical documentation, engineering processes and procedures.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Proven analytical, problem-solving and continuous improvement capability.
• Ability to influence change and deliver practical engineering outcomes.
• Experience in working for multiple Rail Infrastructure Managers and Rolling Stock Operators, sound knowledge of the requirements of the Rail Safety National Law, and knowledge of above rail operators’ maintenance practices are highly desirable.
